Introduction to the Wanmai 19 wheat variety, originally named Wansu 8802

Breeding institution: Suixian Prefecture Agricultural Science Research Institute, Anhui Province.

Approval status: approved by the Anhui Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee in 1994, and by the National Crop Variety Approval Committee in 1999.

Variety approval number: Guoshenmai 990005.

Variety source: Bo'ai 7422 / Yumai No. 2.

Characteristics: semi-winter type. Seedlings semi-prostrate, strong tillering ability, plant height 85 cm. Spike square-shaped, long awns, white glumes. Grain oval, white, hard texture, 1000-grain weight 40 g. Protein content 14.88%, wet gluten content 35.6%, sedimentation value 21.7 ml. Resistant to stripe rust, slightly susceptible to powdery mildew, susceptible to fusarium head blight and leaf rust. In the 1991 and 1992 Anhui provincial regional trials, average yield 383.7 kg per mu, 5.12% higher than the control Bo'ai 7422; in the 1993 and 1994 Huanghuai South Regional Trial, average yield 455.95 kg per mu, 8.08% higher than the control Xiangmai No. 2; in the 1995 and 1996 Huanghuai North Regional Trial, average yield 439.33 kg per mu, 8.88% higher than the control Lumai No. 14.

Cultivation points: sowing period October 5-25, basic seedlings 100,000-120,000 for high water and fertility land, pay attention to compaction during the overwintering period, spray paclobutrazol before jointing to strengthen stems and prevent lodging, and control sheath blight and fusarium head blight early.

Suitable range: medium to high water and fertility land in the Huanghuai winter wheat southern region, including Huaibei in Anhui, central and southern Henan, and the Xuhuai region of Jiangsu.
