Shennong 014 Rice Variety Profile (Liaoning Rice Approval [2006] No. 174)
Bred by the Rice Research Institute of Shenyang Agricultural University in 1996 through artificial hybridization and line selection using Shennong 265 as the female parent and 9660 as the male parent. Approved by the Liaoning Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee in 2007.
Characteristics: The growth period of this variety is about 150 days, belonging to the medium-early maturing type. At the seedling stage, the leaf color is dark green and the leaves are erect. Plant height is 107 cm, the plant type is compact, tillering ability is medium to strong, the main stem has 15 leaves, the panicle type is erect, panicle length is 19 cm, grain number per panicle is 170, 1000-grain weight is 25 g, the glume color is yellow-white, occasionally with sparse short awns. Tested by the Rice and Rice Products Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, the brown rice rate is 83.2%, the milled rice rate is 76.9%, the head rice rate is 70.6%, the grain length is 4.8 mm, the grain length-to-width ratio is 1.7, the chalky grain rate is 5%, the chalkiness degree is 0.6%, the transparency is grade 1, the alkali spreading value is 7, the gel consistency is 52 mm, the amylose content is 15.4%, the protein content is 8.9%, and the rice quality is excellent. According to field identification and investigation of panicle neck blast, it is susceptible to panicle neck blast.
Yield performance: In 2004-2005, it participated in the regional trial of the medium-early maturing group of rice in Liaoning Province, with yield increases at 7 sites and yield decreases at 3 sites. The two-year average yield per mu was 547.68 kg, an increase of 5.71% over the control Tiejing 5; in 2006, it participated in the production trial of the same group, with an average yield per mu of 554.72 kg, an increase of 9.75% over the control Shennong 315.
Key points of cultivation techniques: Sow in early April, transplant rice seedlings in mid-May, with a row spacing of 30 cm x 13.3 cm, and plant 3-5 seedlings per hill. Apply 65 kg of standard nitrogen fertilizer, 10 kg of phosphate fertilizer, and 10 kg of potassium fertilizer per mu. Water layer management adopts shallow, wet, and dry intermittent irrigation. Pay attention to the prevention and control of rice blast.
Suitable areas: Shennong 014 is suitable for planting in the medium-early maturing rice areas of eastern and northern Liaoning Province.
