Celeriac Planting Techniques

Celeriac is a type of celery whose main edible part is the root. Celeriac can not only be eaten but also used for juicing. It has effects such as lowering blood pressure, promoting urination, and boosting appetite, and ordinary celery's fragrance is mild, and its crude fiber content is very low. It is very suitable for elderly people to eat, so how should celeriac be planted? Below, the editor brings you the planting techniques for celeriac. Let's take a look together!

1. Planting time

The planting time for celeriac is mainly in spring and autumn. In spring, seedlings are raised in greenhouses in February to March, then planted in late April, and under normal management, harvesting can begin in August. Or plant in late April, then harvest around November. Because the roots of celeriac are more suited to living in a shady and moist environment, during the planting process, in cooler temperature environments, celeriac grows more healthily and yields are higher. If the summer temperature in a region is too high, then it is only suitable for planting in autumn.

2. Sowing and seedling raising

The fruit skin of celeriac is relatively hard and contains a lot of oil, has poor water absorption capacity, so its germination ability is weak, seedling emergence is uneven, and the germination rate is low. Therefore, raising seedlings is very important. Before sowing, seed soaking and germination promotion work should be done well. The water temperature should be controlled at around 25 degrees, and soak for about 9 hours. Then wash the seeds clean, air-dry the water, mix them evenly with soil, and then spread them evenly on the seedbed. The seedbed soil should be finely prepared and broken up, and after applying enough base fertilizer, water thoroughly. Ensure full contact between the seeds and the soil, then control the temperature at around 20 degrees, strengthen management, and promote seed germination.

3. Timely planting

Before planting, choose a soft, deep, and fertile plot as the planting field, then do a good job of clearing the garden, deeply plow the land, and apply an appropriate amount of base fertilizer. After controlling the planting density, transplant appropriately. When digging seedlings, be careful not to damage the roots of celeriac. Because the recovery ability of celeriac roots is poor, after injury it will affect growth ability, cause various diseases and insect pests, and lead to poor growth of celeriac, and in severe cases lead to death. Therefore, when digging seedlings, try to transplant with soil, which can ensure that the roots are not damaged and can continue to provide nutrients to celeriac during the transplanting process.

4. Field management

Celeriac growth prefers water, but when watering, do not use flood irrigation. Increase the frequency of watering and reduce the amount of water each time. During the vigorous leaf growth period, the principle should be not to water unless the soil is dry. During the fleshy root enlargement period, ensure sufficient water, then apply additional fertilizer appropriately, mainly phosphorus and potassium fertilizer; potassium fertilizer can effectively promote the enlargement of celeriac fleshy roots. Then do a good job of cultivating and weeding to prevent hollowing of celeriac, remove leaves in time, improve field ventilation, avoid consuming too many nutrients, and affect plant growth.

The above is a brief introduction to celeriac planting techniques. Celeriac has relatively strong growth ability and is relatively simple to plant. However, attention should also be paid to the prevention and control of diseases and insect pests to prevent fatal harm to celeriac. That is all for today's introduction.
