What causes deformed kidney beans? How should they be dealt with?
Kidney beans are the common green beans in our daily life, one of the vegetables people rather like, but when growing them, kidney beans often produce deformed pods, generally appearing as a curved hook shape. What is going on here, and what causes it? Take a look with the editor.

1. Spraying allergy-triggering chemicals
When growing kidney beans, some chemicals are more or less sprayed to promote growth or prevent and control pests and diseases, but kidney beans are sensitive to chemicals such as mancozeb, zineb or diethofencarb, and if these chemicals are applied excessively, they will cause the pods to curve. In addition, kidney beans are also rather sensitive to dubofan, and very easily develop damage, forming deformed fruits. It is also possible that spraying copper preparations or carbendazim-plus-thiram caused chemical injury, mildly causing the pods to become completely deformed, and severely causing flowers and pods to drop.
Solution: When preventing and controlling pests and diseases, chemicals such as iprodione, procymidone, chlorothalonil, vinclozolin, iminoctadine, and carbendazim can be used, and chemicals containing mancozeb, zineb or diethofencarb should be used as little as possible or not at all.
2. Boron deficiency
The element boron is an important substance affecting the pod-setting rate and yield of kidney beans. During the flowering and pod-setting period, if boron is deficient, the pod-setting rate is low, and even if pods set, the flowers are large and the pods are long, the pods are prone to bending, and their marketability is low.
Solution: The best method is to apply a small amount of boron fertilizer when applying base fertilizer, or spray borax solution 1-2 times before the kidney beans flower, which can also quickly supplement the plant's boron element.
3. Temperature
During the pod growth period, if the temperature is too high or too low, it will cause the bean pods to grow curved and become deformed. The suitable growth temperature for kidney beans during the day is 23-25 degrees, and the suitable growth temperature at night is around 18, while the temperature during the flowering period is best at 23 degrees. If the daytime temperature is below 20 degrees or above 30 degrees, its flowering and pod-setting rate is relatively low.
Solution: During the flowering period, be sure to pay attention to temperature. If the temperature is too high, ventilate in time to lower the temperature; if the temperature is too high, close the greenhouse in time to increase the room temperature.
4. Water
During planting, soil that is too dry or has too much standing water will cause the pods that have just set to become deformed. This is because soil that is too dry or too wet will affect root growth, causing the plant to grow weakly, thereby affecting flowering and pod setting.
Solution: To keep the plant's pods from becoming deformed, the plant's root system must grow robustly. Generally, watering should be determined according to soil moisture conditions. Generally, do not water before flowering; after pods set, water together with fertilizing. When watering, use small drip irrigation, and large flood irrigation is not suitable, so as to avoid root rot.
