How to Grow Aconite

Aconite, also called wild aconite, is mainly grown in Hunan, Hubei and Sichuan in our country. Aconite is mainly used to treat restored yang for rescuing from collapse, dispelling cold and relieving pain, cold and pain in the heart and abdomen, athlete's foot and edema, chronic infantile convulsions, impotence, uterine cold and so on. But we must note that aconite contains a certain toxicity, so it cannot be used directly; it must be processed before use. However, today we are going to talk about the planting methods of aconite, so let's learn about them together.

1. Seed selection and land preparation

Aconite has the characteristics of liking warmth, liking moisture, liking sunlight and tolerating cold. The planting site should be chosen as sandy loam rich in humus with deep soil layers, loose soil texture, sufficient fertility and sufficient water, but with good drainage. It can be wasteland or cultivated land. After choosing the planting site, carry out conventional land preparation and apply heavy base fertilizer, with farmyard manure as the main base fertilizer. Mix the base fertilizer evenly, open furrows and make beds, and rake the bed surface flat. For the seeds, we should choose excellent varieties; varieties like Zhongfu No. 1 and Zhongfu No. 2 have very good yield and quality.

2. Planting methods

Planting is generally carried out in November each year. The row spacing for planting is 25 to 30 cm, and the plant spacing is 15 to 20 cm. When planting, the main planting depth is generally about 15 cm, and usually more than 10,000 aconite plants can be planted per mu. Next, when planting, we should note that the planting density should be planned according to different terrains and soil fertility.

3. Field management

Before emergence, we should carry out bed raking and ditch clearing, and then after emergence, check the growth status of the seedlings and replant missing seedlings in time. After replanting, carry out one intertillage and weeding, or manual weeding. Next, when the aconite seedlings grow to about 15 cm, carry out appropriate root pruning; generally, about two root prunings are needed during its growth process. The growth cycle of aconite is relatively short, but three topdressings are still needed, mainly with decomposed compost or barnyard manure. About one week after the first root pruning, pinching should begin, and then bud removal should be carried out once a week. Finally, note that drainage and watering should be done in time.

4. Pest and disease control

During the growth of aconite, there are still many pests and diseases. Diseases such as southern blight, downy mildew, root rot, powdery mildew and root-knot nematode disease occur frequently. We can use carbendazim, Bordeaux mixture, thiram wettable powder and lime sulfur mixture respectively for control. Next, the most harmful pests are the stem borer, red aphid, silver-striped noctuid and leafhopper, which can be poisoned with trichlorfon or dimethoate emulsifiable concentrate.
