How to propagate goji berry? A detailed introduction to common propagation methods
Goji berry (Lycium barbarum) is a medicinal herb suitable for both medicine and food; it has the effects of improving human immunity, fighting cancer and boosting intelligence, and delaying aging, with good health benefits. Before planting goji berry, the first thing to consider is its propagation method. Goji berry propagation methods can be divided into seed propagation and cutting propagation, and cutting propagation can be further divided into hardwood cuttings and softwood cuttings. Now let's take a look at the propagation methods for goji berry.

1. Seed propagation
Sowing goji berry is suitable in April-May. Before sowing, soak the dry seeds in warm water for 8-10 hours. After they have fully absorbed water, remove them, let them dry slightly, and prepare to sow. When sowing, open a 4 cm trench on the bed surface at a row spacing of 25 cm, with a trench depth of about 1 cm. When sowing, mix the seeds evenly with fine sand, then scatter them into the trench, cover with a layer of fine moist soil, and press lightly. After sowing, during the seedling stage, water frequently to maintain soil moisture, which is beneficial to seedling growth. In addition, weed and fertilize, and when thinning seedlings, remove unhealthy weak seedlings and keep only strong ones.
2. Hardwood cuttings
Hardwood cuttings can be done in early April. Choose thick, strong-growing branches and cut them into 5-20 cm sections; generally, a section with three buds is chosen as the propagation material for cuttings. It is best to choose the base or middle part of the branch as the propagation material; the tip or young tender part of the branch is not suitable as propagation material. Soak the base of the cuttings in naphthaleneacetic acid for 24 hours, then rinse with clean water before cutting. When cutting, insert the cuttings vertically into the seedbed at a plant and row spacing of about 5 cm, with the axillary buds facing up; roots will form in about 20-25 days.
3. Softwood cuttings
Softwood cuttings are generally done in June-July. Before cutting, first set up a plastic shed, use a shade net outside the shed for shading, and use fine sand inside the shed as the cutting bed. Collect semi-lignified new shoots, cut them into 12-15 cm long cuttings, remove the base, and keep the leaves on top. Insert them directly into the bed, water three times a day to keep the leaves moist, and keep the temperature inside the shed at 30-34 degrees; roots will form one month after cutting, and they can be transplanted about 40 days later.
