What are the precautions for cultivating shaggy ink cap mushrooms? A full analysis of the key growing points
The shaggy ink cap mushroom, also known as the shaggy mane or spiny-haired mushroom, has flesh similar to chicken, but it does not taste like chicken; because its shape closely resembles a chicken leg, it is called the shaggy ink cap mushroom. The shaggy ink cap mushroom has very high development value and is a new type of mushroom. Relying on its rich nutritional value and taste, the shaggy ink cap mushroom is welcomed by many people. It is now also cultivated over a relatively wide area in China, so what precautions are there when cultivating shaggy ink cap mushrooms? Let's take a look together with the editor below!

1. Control temperature
The shaggy ink cap mushroom has certain temperature requirements, and its spores need a germination temperature of around 24°C. After the spores germinate, the temperature should be controlled at around 25-27°C to promote mycelial growth. The mycelium of the shaggy ink cap mushroom has strong cold resistance and can grow at temperatures of around minus 10°C, but its growth rate is relatively slow. During mycelial growth, the temperature must not exceed 35°C; above that, the shaggy ink cap mushroom will gradually melt and turn black, and the mycelium will also gradually die. Therefore, during the fruiting period, the temperature should be controlled at around 12-25°C, and when the temperature changes greatly, the temperature should be adjusted in time.
2. Water management
After covering the bed surface with soil, the soil should be gradually moistened within 3 days, ensuring that the soil moisture content is around 20%. It is enough if the soil can be squeezed into a ball by hand without sticking to the hand; this can promote the mycelium to extend into the soil layer and enhance its growth capacity. Then, after about half a month, as the primordia of the fruiting bodies form, the amount of watering should be increased to ensure sufficient water to promote the growth of the fruiting bodies. Moreover, after the fruiting bodies enter the expansion period, they need to be watered once a day, and watering should stop after the flush of mushrooms ends so the mycelium can recover its growth vigor. Then, after the next batch grows out, water again, and repeat this cycle.
3. Ventilation and air exchange
The shaggy ink cap mushroom has a relatively strong respiration capacity. Like humans, it absorbs oxygen and exhales carbon dioxide. However, when ventilating the shaggy ink cap mushroom, ventilation must not be too strong, because if the ventilation volume is too large, it will increase the scales on the surface of the shaggy ink cap mushroom and reduce its commercial value. Still, during watering, it should be ventilated appropriately, and after finishing, wait about 60 minutes before closing the vents. When the temperature is relatively high, hang wet straw curtains over the vents before ventilating to prevent hot wind from lowering the humidity of the mushroom house. On rainy days, the ventilation time can be appropriately extended to ensure a sufficient oxygen supply for the growth of the shaggy ink cap mushroom.
4. Pay attention to shading
Too strong light will inhibit the growth of the shaggy ink cap mushroom and will also accelerate the aging rate of the mycelium. Therefore, in summer, in order to prevent direct sunlight on the shaggy ink cap mushroom, a shade shed should be built over the mushroom house, and the shade shed must ensure no light passes through. A layer of plastic film also needs to be covered over the shade shed to prevent water leakage when it rains. After building it, pay attention to the humidity inside the shade shed; it is sufficient to keep the humidity at around 75%.
The above is a brief introduction to the precautions for cultivating shaggy ink cap mushrooms. Cultivating shaggy ink cap mushrooms is relatively simple. However, the above aspects are not only our precautions, but also our most basic routine management work. Only by doing these tasks well can we ensure the normal growth of shaggy ink cap mushrooms.
