Detailed Explanation of Key Points of Edamame Seedling Raising and Transplanting Techniques
Edamame, also called green-skinned bean, has very high nutritional value and is rich in fats, vitamins, protein and other substances. Besides being stir-fried or eaten directly, it can also be used to make sauce and various snacks. It is a crop with very wide uses and has a large planting area in China. Today, edamame is mostly grown by the method of raising seedlings and transplanting. So how should edamame be raised and transplanted? Below, the editor brings you the seedling raising and transplanting techniques for edamame. Let's take a look!

1. Select superior seeds
Selecting superior seeds is the first and a very important step in raising seedlings; the quality of the seeds is directly related to the growth of the seedling plants. When choosing seeds, we should observe the appearance of the seeds and must not choose seeds with obvious wounds, pests and diseases, or shriveled, waterless seeds. If you are an experienced grower, you can select seeds with large, plump grains and high pod-setting capacity at harvest time. Moreover, saving your own seeds can guarantee seed quality, reduce abnormal planting situations, and also appropriately lower planting costs.
2. Sowing and raising seedlings
Edamame seedlings can usually be raised twice; the first time is in early February. Choose sandy soil with sufficient sunlight, soft soil texture and strong permeability as the seedling bed. Never choose clay soil, because clay soil easily causes water accumulation in the seedling bed, leading to rotten seeds and dead seedlings. Control the area of the seedling bed well, deeply plow and level the seedbed before sowing, cover with fine soil after sowing, and water appropriately if the water content is insufficient, just enough to soak the soil through. After watering, cover with a small amount of rice straw to improve the soil's water- and fertilizer-retaining capacity, reduce soil crusting, and avoid dead seedlings.
3. Timely transplanting
Before transplanting, choose the field for planting well. The environment of the field should be similar to that of the seedling bed; permeable soil, high fertility and sufficient sunlight are enough. When more than half of the seedlings in the seedling bed have grown about two true leaves, transplanting can begin, and it is best to transplant after the rain stops. Before transplanting, deeply plow and finely level the field, then open furrows with good control of width, and plant appropriately on both sides of the furrows with good control of planting density. When planting, apply an appropriate amount of fertilizer, mainly compound fertilizer, to promote nutrient absorption after the seedlings are planted and prevent death from lack of nutrients.
4. Seedling management
After transplanting and planting, management should be strengthened: appropriate intertillage and weeding, timely topdressing, and prevention and control of pests and diseases. Observe the growth of the seedlings; when the seedlings grow to about 25 cm, carry out the first intertillage and weeding. Intertillage and weeding must not be done after rain; choose a sunny or cloudy day. Then, according to the growth situation, appropriately combine it with topdressing, control the amount of fertilizer well, and prevent fertilizer damage. When the soil is too dry, water promptly, but the amount of water should not be too much; if there is a lot of rain or excessive watering, pay attention to drainage.
We must also do a good job in the prevention and control of pests and diseases. During prevention and control, mainly use pesticides, try to ensure the same pesticide is used, and pay attention to the dosage; it must not be used excessively, otherwise edamame is very prone to pesticide damage. It also poses a great threat to growth, and in the middle and late stages these management tasks are also very important, so everyone must pay attention. That is all for today's introduction.
