Changshan Cultivation Techniques

We all know Changshan County, but what the editor wants to introduce to you today is not Changshan County, but a Chinese medicinal herb called Changshan (Dichroa febrifuga). Changshan can be used to resolve phlegm, dispel dampness, and treat indigestion, and it also has a certain regulatory effect on the spleen, stomach, and liver. So how is Changshan cultivated? Now let's follow the editor to learn about Changshan cultivation techniques.

1. Growing Environment

In China, Changshan is mainly cultivated in Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou, and other places, among which Sichuan has the best quality and the highest yield. It is suitable for growing in a warm, humid environment, and the planting site should have ample sunlight, ample water, and relatively sufficient soil fertility. Deeply plow the land and do so together with fully decomposed farmyard manure. If the fertilizer is mixed evenly, then carry out fine cultivation, prepare the land and make beds, break the bed soil up finely, level the bed surface, and make the furrows 20 cm deep.

2. Sowing and Raising Seedlings

Changshan cultivation generally uses the method of seed propagation. There are not many varieties of Changshan, and because there are actually many medicinal herbs that can substitute for Changshan in our daily lives, the planting area is not large. We need to select high-quality varieties, then prepare the seedbed well, and then sow the seeds evenly in rows. Before sowing, note that the seedbed should be watered thoroughly before sowing, as this can improve the seeds' water absorption capacity and thus promote the speed of seed germination.

3. Transplanting Seedlings and Field Planting

The seeds germinate relatively quickly, and transplanting can generally be carried out in early spring. Generally, when the seedlings grow to about 15 to 20 cm tall, they can be transplanted. When pulling up the seedlings, they need to be pulled out together with the base soil of the seedbed, so that after transplanting the seedlings will adapt to the environment more quickly, thereby increasing the survival rate of the planted seedlings. Finally, the planting density is generally about 30 cm between rows and about 25 cm between plants.

4. Intertillage and Weeding

After Changshan is planted and survives, we need to carry out the first weeding, along with intertillage and earthing up. During intertillage, deep plowing must not be done, so as not to damage the root system of Changshan and cause the surviving Changshan plants to die

. Secondly, during the growth process of Changshan, we need to carry out intertillage at least four times, while weeding needs to be done promptly according to the growth of weeds in the field.

5. Fertilizer and Water Management

In order to promote the growth of Changshan, fertilizer and water management in the later stage is very crucial. Generally, after planting, we need to water, usually once every 10 days or so; in summer, watering is generally needed in the morning and evening, and in the case of continuous rain for many days, excess water should be drained from the medicinal field in time. As for fertilizing, scientific fertilization should be carried out according to the growth of Changshan. If the branches and leaves of Changshan turn yellow, it is generally caused by malnutrition, and at this time we need to fertilize. At the end of spring and the beginning of summer, as well as at the end of autumn and the approach of winter, we all need to apply fully decomposed compost to enhance soil fertility.

The above are the cultivation methods for Changshan. That is all for the editor's introduction today. Many friends may still have great doubts about Changshan cultivation, but due to the editor's limited energy, this is all that can be shared.
