Planting Methods for Chinaberry

Chinaberry is a medicinal material with low toxicity, mainly cultivated in Sichuan, Yunnan, Hunan, Hubei and other parts of China. It can be used to expel roundworms, treat scalp ringworm, treat hair loss, abdominal distension and pain, vaginal discharge, dysmenorrhea, and difficult urination and other symptoms. If eaten by mistake it will cause poisoning, and timely treatment is required, while excessive use will lead to death. So how do you plant chinaberry? Today let's learn about it.

 1. Planting Environment

The environment and climate for planting chinaberry should be relatively warm, with ample sunlight, fertile soil and deep soil layers; hills, flat land and wasteland can all be used for planting. It has a certain drought resistance and cold resistance, and is also tolerant of poor soil and alkaline soil. If the planting site has strong water retention and fertilizer retention, the plants grow more vigorously. When planting chinaberry, land preparation is generally done by pit cultivation; dig pits at a distance of three meters between rows and two meters between plants, with each pit measuring sixty cm wide, sixty cm wide and fifty cm high. Then apply farmyard manure into the pits and wait to plant.

2. Sowing and Seedling Raising

Generally, we first carry out sowing and seedling raising, and the sowing time is between the end of February and the end of March each year. If sowing is too late, it will cause poor development, and the latest sowing time cannot be later than the end of March. Before sowing, the seedbed needs to be finely and evenly prepared, and the beds made well; then put the seeds into water to soak for about two to three days and take them out, then sow at a row spacing of thirty cm and a plant spacing of seven to eight cm. Finally, irrigate with clear manure water and wait for the seedlings to emerge.

3. Transplanting Seedlings for Afforestation

Chinaberry generally takes about two months to emerge; when the seedlings grow to about ten cm, we then need to thin the seedlings, and when the seedlings grow to about thirty cm, we can then carry out transplanting and planting. Pull out the cultivated saplings together with the base soil, place one seedling in each prepared pit, then cover with soil and compact the ground.

4. Cultivation Management

In the first few years after planting, generally three to four times of loosening the soil and weeding are needed each year. And water reasonably according to the weather conditions and the water needs of chinaberry. The soil moisture in the forest land should generally be kept at about fifty-five to sixty percent; fertilization in the early stage of chinaberry is mainly nitrogen fertilizer, and later when fruiting, reasonably use a slow combination of farmyard manure, potassium fertilizer and phosphate fertilizer, and spray foliar fertilizer when necessary. Finally, pay attention to preventing the harm of cutworms to chinaberry seedlings, which can be controlled by spraying wettable benzene hexachloride.
