What are the growing environment requirements for Dendrobium officinale
Dendrobium officinale is currently one of the most common species of Dendrobium, and its medicinal value and tonic effects are excellent. Dendrobium officinale is generally suited to growing in a cool, moist environment with good air circulation. In China, most of the Dendrobium officinale is distributed across Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian, as well as Guangxi, Sichuan and Yunnan. Dendrobium officinale has relatively strict requirements for its growing environment, so what are the requirements for its growing environment? Let us take a look together below.

1. Temperature
Dendrobium officinale has very strict temperature requirements for growth. In general, Dendrobium officinale can survive in environments with temperatures ranging from minus two degrees to around a high of forty-one degrees, meaning it will not die. However, it can only grow in environments with temperatures of around ten to thirty-five degrees, and it grows fastest in environments with temperatures of around twenty to thirty degrees; under other conditions its growth rate is relatively slow. So during high summer temperatures, a shade shed needs to be built, and cooling measures must be carried out in a timely manner. In winter, insulation must be carried out in a timely manner, and at the same time the ventilation of the field must also be enhanced.
2. Humidity
The field humidity for Dendrobium officinale is mainly related to the level of temperature and the growth stage of Dendrobium officinale. During the vigorous growth period of Dendrobium officinale, the humidity in the field air is best kept at around seventy percent to ninety percent, as this is generally the period when its water demand is greatest. There is also another period when the water demand is relatively high, which is when summer temperatures are higher, requiring watering twice a day, in the morning and evening. At other times, it is generally enough to keep the air humidity at around sixty percent.
3. Medium
The planting medium for Dendrobium officinale is the foundation of successful cultivation. It is generally suited to growing in environments where the soil is relatively loose, with good permeability and water retention, good ventilation, and moss in the surrounding area. Therefore, for the planting medium we generally use some bark, leaves, sand and gravel, loam, etc. as the planting medium, so that the root environment is prone to drainage and ventilation. The quality and yield of the planted Dendrobium officinale are thus particularly high.
4. Light
Dendrobium officinale has relatively strict requirements for light. Generally, wild Dendrobium grows in high-altitude valleys or rock crevices, where the light is not very strong and is generally scattered light, and this kind of light has a great promoting effect on the growth of Dendrobium. So when we artificially cultivate Dendrobium officinale, it is best to imitate the wild natural environment for cultivation, choose a good planting site, and then also adopt modern greenhouse technology to scientifically control the light. Control the light at the planting site at around fifty percent to eighty percent.
In the process of planting Dendrobium officinale, the selection of the soil substrate is actually the foundation of planting, while the later temperature, humidity, ventilation, light and so on are the keys to planting. So when planting Dendrobium officinale, we must grasp its growth habits well, and then reasonably improve its growing environment.
