Cultivation Techniques and Management Methods for Exocarpium Citri Grandis
Exocarpium Citri Grandis is relatively unfamiliar to many people, but when it comes to citrus, we all know it - it is a fruit we commonly eat and is popular and well-liked in the market. Exocarpium Citri Grandis is the dried outer peel of citrus, and it has the effects of regulating qi and relieving distension, drying dampness and resolving phlegm. It is mostly used for symptoms such as cough with excessive phlegm, nausea and stuffiness. So how should Exocarpium Citri Grandis be cultivated? Let's take a look together.

1. Site Selection and Land Preparation
Exocarpium Citri Grandis has wide adaptability to soil and can adapt to environments with annual rainfall of 1000-1500 mm and air humidity of 75%. It can be planted in red-yellow soil, sandy beaches, and coastal shoals. The soil pH value is best between 5.5-6.5, and the soil is required to have good drainage and permeability. After selecting a plot, the land should be prepared according to local conditions. For example, plots with heavy rainfall need good drainage measures, areas with poor soil need base fertilizer applied, and coastal sandy beach land, which has poor water and fertilizer retention, needs windbreak forests established and improvement measures carried out.
2. Propagation Methods
Propagation methods for Exocarpium Citri Grandis include seeds, grafting, cuttings, and layering. Among these, the air layering propagation method can maintain the excellent traits of the mother plant and is the preferred choice for propagation. Select 1-2 year old branches from a robust mother plant of Exocarpium Citri Grandis that has already flowered and fruited. Make a cut or ring-bark the base of the branch, about 3-5 cm wide, and scrape off the outer layer. After one or two days, wrap the ring-barked area with fertile soil, then secure and tie it tightly with plastic film. Wait for roots to form, then separate from the mother plant and transplant.
3. Transplanting and Field Planting
In the selected planting site, dig holes at a spacing of 5×4 m. Choose an overcast and rainy day to carry out the work. Water the topsoil thoroughly and make it into mud. When planting, the root system of the seedlings should be spread out, then fill in soil layer by layer, gently lifting upward while filling so that the roots and soil are closely connected. After filling with soil, water thoroughly to settle the roots, then cover the area around the holes with grass to keep warm and moist. After planting, replant missing seedlings promptly to ensure a full stand, and water according to weather conditions to keep the soil moist until growth is stable.
4. Field Management
Before planting, base fertilizer can be applied according to soil fertility. After planting, intertillage and weeding should be carried out once every two months. During intertillage, combine with fertilization: apply 3 kg of organic fertilizer and 25 g of urea per plant. For saplings over two years old, apply 5 kg of organic fertilizer and 50 g of urea per plant. Every winter and spring, prune off dead branches, old branches, diseased branches, and excessive vegetative branches to promote the growth of fruiting branches, increase plant permeability, and achieve the goal of high yield.
