Beet growing methods and timing

When it comes to beets, many people are actually not very clear about what beets are. What we generally call beets are mostly used for sugar production, with a few used for cooking. Due to differences in natural conditions across regions of our country, the planting time and methods for beets vary. So next, let us take a detailed look at beet growing methods and sowing times!

Planting time

Because of differences in climate, the planting time is certainly different. In Northeast China, North China and the central and western parts of Inner Mongolia, sowing is basically in mid-to-early April; in the Heilongjiang region it is basically mid-to-late April; generally in northern regions the planting time cannot be later than early May. In the Yellow River basin, or places where the crop can be sown twice a year, sowing is basically done in summer.

Growing methods

Site selection, land preparation and fertilization: To ensure beet yield, the requirements for the land are also relatively strict. The land should be relatively fertile and must not be uneven. Uneven ground is not conducive to drainage, and excessive moisture can cause beets to develop water sickness. Secondly, when preparing the land, make sure the soil is loose and does not contain large clods of earth. Fertilization should be reasonable, using chemical fertilizer in appropriate amounts, and when necessary combined with farmyard manure. Generally, chemical fertilizers are basically nitrogen fertilizer, phosphate fertilizer and potassium chloride, while farmyard manure can be livestock excrement or plant ash or decomposed plant matter.

Seed selection, transplanting and weeding: When selecting seeds, choose excellent varieties with strong disease resistance, high sugar content and high yield. To better prevent disease, the seeds can be soaked in chemicals before sowing, which can effectively protect the seedlings from insect damage. The purpose of transplanting is to ensure a reasonable planting density for beets, which helps increase beet yield and is beneficial for fertilizer absorption and better photosynthesis, increasing sugar content. During the growth of beets, weeding must be carried out several times, at least three times. During weeding, fertilizer should be added in time to ensure the nutrients needed for its growth.

Disease prevention

Brown spot disease: Brown spot disease is a common beet disease and appears in many regions. It is extremely harmful to beets, and prevention should begin in late June.

Damping-off: Damping-off generally appears in the early stage of growth, which means you should start loosening the soil, reduce soil moisture, and at the same time apply drug treatment.

Beetles: Beetles are a kind of insect that likes to eat leaves, so as soon as these insects appear, spraying must be done immediately, otherwise the leaves will be eaten completely.

The above is the beet growing method that Qinnongwang brings to everyone today. This is also the most common growing method. Everyone should also now understand the planting time for beets. If you have better insights, you are welcome to recommend them to the editor!
