Where is the origin of Jiaogulan? Introduction to the distribution of its main producing areas

Jiaogulan, also known as Qiye Dan, Wuye Shen, Qiye Shen, etc., is a herbaceous climbing plant of the genus Gynostemma in the Cucurbitaceae family. It is popularly called the magical "herb of immortality and longevity." It was listed first among the "precious Chinese medicinal materials" to be developed in the "Spark Program" of the State Science and Technology Commission, and the Ministry of Health included it on the list of health products. Now let us take a look at where Jiaogulan's origin is!
Where is the origin of Jiaogulan?
Jiaogulan is distributed worldwide in China, India, Nepal, Sikkim, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia (Java), New Guinea, Korea, and Japan, among other places. In China, its producing areas are distributed in Shaanxi, Sichuan, Yunnan, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, and other places. Wild Jiaogulan is mainly distributed in Hunan and in the area of Shengtang Mountain in Jinxiu County, Guangxi.
The growing environment of Jiaogulan's origin
Wild Jiaogulan grows under mountain forests, beside ditches, and in shady, damp places in valleys. It prefers shaded environments, with upper-layer coverage of about 50-80%, ventilation and light transmission, and sandy soil, sandy loam, or rubble areas rich in humus loam. It can grow in neutral, slightly acidic soil or slightly alkaline soil, and grows in dense valley forests, sparse hillside forests, shrubs, or roadside grass at an altitude of 300-3200 m.
The medicinal value of Jiaogulan
1. Replenishing qi and strengthening the spleen: Jiaogulan is sweet in flavor and enters the spleen meridian. It can replenish qi and strengthen the spleen, and treat conditions such as spleen-stomach qi deficiency, physical fatigue and lack of strength, and loss of appetite.
2. Resolving phlegm and relieving cough: Jiaogulan enters the lung meridian. It can benefit lung qi, clear lung heat, and also has the effect of resolving phlegm and relieving cough. It is suitable for treating dual deficiency of qi and yin, dry heat in the lungs, and cough with profuse sticky phlegm.
3. Clearing heat and detoxifying: Jiaogulan has the effect of clearing heat and detoxifying, and can be used to treat heat-toxin symptoms that appear in tumor conditions.
4. Lowering blood lipids: Jiaogulan has the effects of significantly lowering cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein, raising high-density lipoprotein, protecting the inner walls of blood vessels, preventing lipid deposition on blood vessel walls, and resisting arteriosclerosis.
5. Preventing and treating thrombosis: Jiaogulan has the function of significantly reducing blood viscosity and regulating blood pressure. It can also prevent microthrombus formation and increase the endurance of myocardial cells to hypoxia, thereby protecting the myocardium.
6. Regulating blood sugar: Jiaogulan can protect the adrenal glands, thymus, and endocrine organs, preventing them from shrinking with age and maintaining the normal function of the endocrine system. It has the effect of lowering blood sugar and improving glucose metabolism.
7. Helping sleep: Jiaogulan nourishes the brain and calms the mind. It can regulate the balance between excitation and inhibition in the cerebral cortex, has a bidirectional regulatory effect on the central nervous system, and has the effects of sedation, hypnosis, resisting tension, relieving fatigue, and enhancing memory.
8. Delaying aging: Jiaogulan has a significant effect on participating in cell revival. It can extend the number of cell reproduction passages and prolong cell lifespan, and has the effect of enhancing superoxide dismutase activity and endurance.
9. Preventing and fighting cancer: Jiaogulan can prevent the cancerous transformation of normal cells, mainly acting on the DNA synthesis process of tumor cells. Anticancer pharmacological experiments prove that Jiaogulan both prevents the cancerous transformation of normal cells and promotes the gradual restoration of cancer cells to normal.
10. Improving immunity: Jiaogulan can enhance macrophage capacity, significantly increase the number of white blood cells, and at the same time increase the phagocytic function of white blood cells themselves, promote the secretion of interleukin in the body, and increase the production of serum immune proteins.
