The Planting Time and Methods of Rapeseed

Rapeseed is mainly grown for oil pressing, and the common sesame oil in our daily life is pressed from rapeseed seeds. But when rapeseed is still a tender seedling, about five to ten cm tall, it can also be served on people's tables as a vegetable. Although we often come into contact with products made from rapeseed, how exactly is it grown? When should it be planted? Let's take a look together with the editor!

Planting Time

We may all know only when rapeseed flowers bloom, because blooming rapeseed flowers can be considered a beautiful scenic sight, but we do not necessarily know when rapeseed is sown. Different regions have different temperatures and environments, so the planting time also varies to some extent. Generally speaking, rapeseed is sown in autumn and winter and blooms in spring. But in some regions it can also be planted in spring.

Planting Methods

Site selection and land preparation: Rapeseed has strong adaptability, so its requirements for soil are not that strict. However, for relatively clayey land, when preparing the land, be careful to first turn the soil over and let it dry in the sun for a few days. Before sowing, water the land once, and after two days spread compound fertilizer and turn the soil over again.

Planting methods: There are two ways to plant rapeseed. The first is direct sowing, sowing rapeseed seeds in rows at a certain spacing, and after the seedlings grow, thinning out the denser areas, which can be used for cooking. The second way is to first cultivate rapeseed seedlings, and then transplant them one by one at a certain spacing.

Field management: When rapeseed grows to 15-20 cm, apply fertilizer and weed the field once. The fertilizer applied this time is urea, aimed at promoting seedling growth. When rapeseed grows to about forty cm, apply fertilizer a second time, this time with farmyard manure. The last fertilization is before flowering, spraying boron fertilizer, which helps make the later fruits more abundant.

Preventive Measures

Common diseases of rapeseed include sclerotinia and seedling damping-off. For sclerotinia, it means you need to be more diligent, promptly clean up and drain waterlogging in the field, and reduce moisture. For seedling damping-off, special chemicals need to be used for spraying and killing. Ordinary growers all know that if rapeseed blooms in winter, it will cause a significant decrease in yield the following year, so to prevent this problem, farmers spray paclobutrazol in advance.

Harvesting

Harvesting must be timely. If too early, many seeds are not yet mature; if too late, they will all fall off. So the general harvest time is when the siliques of the whole rapeseed plant are yellow-green, which is the most suitable period for harvest. After harvesting, it should be dried in the sun, and then after later drying, threshing, and a further careful screening, it is ready.

Growing rapeseed is actually very simple. If some people are a bit lazy and are not doing it to increase yield, they just need to plant the rapeseed, apply fertilizer once, kill insects once, and then they can wait to harvest the seeds. Alright, this is a simple rapeseed planting method that Qinnongwang is sharing with everyone today. Did everyone remember it? If you have a better method, you can also recommend it to the editor!
