A Detailed Explanation of Phellodendron Planting Techniques and Cultivation Management Methods
Phellodendron, also known as huangnie, huangbopi, and other names, has bark that can be used medicinally after drying. It has the effects of clearing heat and drying dampness, and purging fire and detoxifying. It mainly treats acute enteritis, spermatorrhea, leukorrhea, rheumatoid arthritis, and other conditions, and has a wide range of uses. So do you know how it is planted? Follow the editor to take a look at the detailed introduction below.

1. Site Selection and Land Preparation
Phellodendron is a sun-loving tree species that prefers an environment with sufficient light. It has no strict requirements for terrain and can be planted in both mountainous areas and plains, but plots with deep and fertile soil, convenient drainage and irrigation, and rich humus are still preferable. After selecting the plot, apply 4000-5000 kg of barnyard manure per mu in combination with land preparation, plow it deeply into the soil, rake it fine and level it, and make flat beds 1.5 m wide.
2. Sowing
Harvest ripe fruits in October-November, pile them for about half a month after harvesting, then rub off the fruit peel, rinse by hand, take the seeds and dry them, and store them in a cool and ventilated place. It can be divided into spring sowing or autumn sowing; spring sowing is in March-May, and autumn sowing is in November-December. Before sowing, soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours, then mix the seeds with fine soil or wet sand to promote germination. After most of the seeds have cracked, sow them in drills in furrows 3 cm deep with a row spacing of 30 cm. After sowing, water to keep the soil moist. To speed up emergence, plastic film or rice straw can be used to cover the bed surface to preserve heat and moisture, and seedlings emerge in about 40-50 days.
3. Seedling Raising
At the time of emergence, keep the soil moist at all times, but when the seedlings grow to 10 cm, thin them out, remove weak seedlings, and cultivate strong seedlings. From sowing to emergence, weed and loosen the soil once to make emergence smooth, and before ridge closure, carry out intertillage and weeding twice to make the soil loose and prevent weeds in the field from competing for nutrients. During the seedling stage, also strengthen fertilizer and water management, and apply topdressing 2-3 times, each time applying 20 kg of diammonium phosphate per mu. After sowing, water frequently to keep the soil moist so that it germinates as soon as possible.
4. Transplanting
When the seedlings have grown for one year and the seedling height is above 50 cm, they can be transplanted. This is generally done before winter freezing and after leaf fall. Dig out the seedlings, appropriately prune overly long roots, or transplant with soil. During transplanting, control the plant spacing and row spacing at 2×3 m. When transplanting, hold the sapling upright, and when half of the soil has been covered, lift the sapling gently so that the roots spread out, then fill in soil, level it, tread it firm, and water. After transplanting, keep the soil moist to improve the transplanting survival rate.
