Key points to note when building a vegetable greenhouse

Vegetable greenhouses are now a fairly common way to grow vegetables, but when building one there are always many issues people fail to notice, which leads to certain aspects being far from ideal. What key points should you pay attention to when building a greenhouse? Let's take a look together below and see which aspects deserve special attention.

1. Site selection

Site selection is one of the cores of a greenhouse; the later growing results and many natural disasters are all affected by the site selection. For greenhouse site selection, fertile soil is a must first of all; secondly, in terms of terrain it must not be in a low-lying area or a place prone to water accumulation; as for the soil, non-sandy soil should be the main type, as it helps with heat preservation. It should be in a sunny spot but not in a wind gap, and the terrain should be relatively flat, otherwise it can very easily cause temperature imbalance inside the greenhouse.

2. Area

When planning the area to build, most people hardly pay much attention to it and think the more compact the better. The greenhouse area should actually be somewhat larger, so that there is room to move vegetables around when needed. If a natural disaster such as a flood occurs, there will also be enough drainage channels. A larger space is good for air circulation, which gives the vegetables a better growing environment. It can also appropriately increase the light-receiving area, letting the vegetables absorb more sunlight.

3. Materials

The choice of materials when building a greenhouse is very important; it should be built with high-quality materials, preferably about 20%-30% above the normal standard. Some growers who tried to save money at the start have already proven the failure of that approach with greenhouses that rotted in their fields. The parts that touch the ground should mainly be made of wood, so the materials are less likely to be damaged. When choosing the covering, besides good light transmission, its heat preservation must also be ensured, so that the temperature inside the greenhouse can effectively be kept at a relatively suitable level.

4. Disaster prevention

Disaster prevention is something everyone needs to take seriously. Many people, when building, only focus on the performance aspects, and as a result a somewhat stronger storm makes it fall apart. So the stability must be good, and the fixing points must go deep into the soil. Then the surrounding drainage channels must be prepared in advance; they must be able to drain in multiple directions and must not always drain to just one place. The soil inside the greenhouse should preferably be slightly higher than the surrounding soil, so the impact of flooding will be much smaller.

The above are some of the points to note when building a greenhouse. A greenhouse is a very good solution; when building one, do not think about saving money for yourself, because after all, once problems arise, the money lost is much more than what you saved.
