Cabbage seedling-raising techniques

Cabbage is one of the important vegetables in China and is cultivated all over the country. It can be used as a vegetable and as feed, and it also has excellent medicinal value. In cabbage production, its seedling-raising technique is crucial because it affects the later yield and quality. Follow the editor below to learn the detailed contents of cabbage seedling-raising techniques.

1. Select good seeds

Choose good seeds according to the local growing environment and planting time. For example, for open-field cultivation in spring, you can choose varieties that are early-maturing, high-yielding and strongly disease-resistant; while if growing in a greenhouse in early spring, you should choose varieties with strong cold resistance and strong disease resistance.

2. Seedbed preparation

The seedbed should be chosen as a plot with loose and fertile soil, rich in organic matter and good drainage, and the previous crop must not have been a cruciferous vegetable. The size of the seedbed depends on the planting scale. Rake the seedbed soil fine and level it, apply 5000 kg of fully decomposed organic fertilizer and 50 kg of high-concentration ternary compound fertilizer per mu, spread them evenly on the ground, and mix them evenly with the soil. In this way, the seedbed is ready.

3. Sow at the right time

The spring sowing time for cabbage is generally December to January. Before sowing, treat the seeds with warm water or chemical disinfection. For warm water seed soaking, soak the seeds in warm water at 50-60 degrees, stir and soak for more than ten minutes, then remove them and soak them in clean water for 12 hours; for chemical seed soaking, choose 75% Baijun 800 times solution and soak the seeds in it for 12 hours. This can eliminate the pathogens and insect eggs carried by the seeds and reduce the chance of pests and diseases. After soaking, greenhouse germination can also be carried out, but coated seeds do not need this. At sowing, the soil should have a certain moisture level. If it is too dry, water thoroughly once before sowing; if the moisture is just right, water after sowing. Sowing can be done in drills or in spots, with a plant and row spacing of 4×4cm, sowing 2-2.5 kg per mu. After sowing, cover with a 1 cm thick layer of fine soil, then cover it with rice straw or plastic film to keep the soil moist and speed up emergence.

4. Seedling-stage management

After sowing, do a good job of temperature, light, water and fertilizer management. Cabbage likes a mild climate and can also tolerate high and low temperatures. It can germinate slowly at 2-3 degrees. After sowing, keep the temperature at 15-25 degrees, and full emergence can be achieved in about a week. After full emergence, control the temperature at 10-20 degrees to prevent the seedlings from growing too fast. If the planting density is relatively high, thin the seedlings in time. When the seedlings grow 2-3 true leaves, they need to be pricked out. At this stage, provide sufficient light and take good disease prevention and control measures. But when the seedlings grow to 5-6 true leaves, they can be transplanted.
