How to increase ginger yield

Ginger is an essential seasoning in our daily life and is widely cultivated in China. Its yield and quality have always been a worry for growers. Generally speaking, ginger yield is about 300-500 kg per mu. Only by achieving high yield can returns be increased, so how should ginger be planted to increase yield? Let's take a look at the detailed introduction.

1. Early preparation

Before planting, the first thing to do is strictly select the land and carefully select ginger seed. The cultivation site should avoid continuous cropping, and sandy loam or clay loam with deep soil, loose and fertile texture, and good drainage should be chosen. The planting plot should have good terrain and be convenient for irrigation and drainage. For seed selection, choose tubers that are plump and full, bright in skin color, fresh in flesh, hard in texture, and have 1-2 strong buds. Before sowing, first carry out sprouting and disinfection treatment to increase the germination rate and reduce the chance of disease occurrence.

2. Timely sowing

If not treated for sprouting, sow in the ground during the Awakening of Insects solar term, while treated ones are sown around Qingming. Sowing adopts the furrow method, with reasonable close planting, controlling plant spacing at 40×30cm. Generally, about 300 kg of seed is used per mu. When sowing, appropriately apply some compound fertilizer as seed fertilizer to promote rapid sprouting. Before sowing, water thoroughly once to keep the soil moist, then place the ginger seed horizontally in the furrow, keep the direction of the young buds consistent, gently press into the soil, and then cover with soil.

3. Scientific fertilization

Ginger is a crop with a relatively large fertilizer demand, so sufficient fertility must be provided during planting, following the principle of mainly base fertilizer supplemented by topdressing. When preparing the land, apply 2000-3000 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer per mu and an appropriate amount of compound fertilizer. Generally, topdress 2-3 times. The first time is when seedlings begin to branch, apply 15-20 kg of nitrogen fertilizer per mu. The second time is around the Start of Autumn, apply 50 kg of compound fertilizer and 25 kg of potassium sulfate per mu. The third time is when the rhizome expands, apply 15 kg of urea and 20 kg of potassium sulfate per mu.

4. Field management

Ginger is a shade-loving plant that does not tolerate high temperatures and strong light, so shading treatment should be carried out in summer. In addition, ginger is not tolerant of drought or waterlogging, and has strict water requirements. The soil should be kept moist at all times, especially during high-temperature periods. In rainy seasons, drainage and waterlogging prevention should also be done in time. When it grows to a certain extent, trellising and topping should be done in time to control the growth height of the stems and vines, reduce unnecessary nutrient consumption, and promote nutrient transfer to the rhizome, which is beneficial to rhizome growth.

5. Pest and disease control

Ginger has relatively few pests and diseases, mainly disease damage. The main diseases include ginger blast, soft rot and leaf spot, and the pests include ginger stem borer and ginger maggot. Ginger blast can be controlled by drenching the roots with diluted Dexon; when soft rot is found, the diseased plants should be removed in time and taken out of the field, and quicklime should be used to disinfect the diseased holes; leaf spot can be controlled by spraying 50% chlorothalonil 800-fold solution. Ginger stem borer and ginger maggot can be controlled by foliar spraying with trichlorfon or phoxim.
