How to overwinter and protect spinach seedlings in the north? Key technical points explained in detail

Celery, also known as Western celery, foreign celery, or American celery, is planted in autumn in the Shuyang area. The average yield per mu is 3000-4000 kg, and high-yielding fields can reach 5000 kg per mu. Its high-yield autumn cultivation techniques are briefly described as follows: 1. Select good varieties for sowing. Choose varieties that bolt late, have strong stress resistance, are not prone to softening, and have thick, solid stalks...
Autumn spinach is an overwintering vegetable sown in autumn and harvested in spring. In northern regions such as Heilongjiang, it begins overwintering in November and turns green again in March or early April of the following year, lasting more than 100 days. Therefore, under long-term low-temperature conditions, ensuring safe overwintering is the key to achieving a bumper harvest.
1. Water the freezing water well
Watering the freezing water must achieve "one determination" and "two suitability." "One determination" means deciding whether to water the freezing water based on how much water the soil contains. Generally, when the absolute water content of sandy loam is below 15%, loam is below 17%, and clay is below 20%, freezing water should be applied. "Two suitability" means watering at the right time and in the right amount. The suitable time for watering freezing water is when the soil plough layer thaws during the day and freezes at night. Watering in the right amount means the amount of freezing water should not be too large or too small. Generally, it is suitable if it connects with the subsoil moisture.
2. Apply overwintering fertilizer well
Applying overwintering fertilizer can increase the nutrient content of the soil, allow winter fertilizer to be used in spring, and promote weak plants to become strong. This is especially important for vegetable plots with little base fertilizer, poor soil fertility, and weak seedlings. Therefore, overwintering fertilizer should be applied together with the freezing water. Generally, 10 kg of urea or 20 kg of ammonium sulfate per mu is applied with the water.
3. Use mulch to protect against cold
During the severe cold period in northern regions, extremely low temperatures are very unfavorable for the safe overwintering of vegetable seedlings. Therefore, mulch should be used to protect against cold and ensure the seedlings overwinter safely. Mulching can generally be carried out after the soil in the plough layer has completely frozen. The mulch is farmyard manure rich in organic matter and crushed and finely broken up. About 1000 kg per mu can be spread.
