In summer and autumn, with high temperatures and abundant rain, Welsh onions are prone to rust disease if continuous rainy weather occurs. Farmers should promptly take effective measures and strengthen prevention and control.
Timely medication for prevention and control. In summer and autumn, especially after 2-3 days of continuous rainy weather, promptly check the occurrence of rust disease in Welsh onions. If brown-green spots are found on the onion leaves, spray immediately. Generally, 25% triadimefon emulsifiable concentrate at 3000 times dilution can be used, plus one quarter portion of laundry detergent, sprayed as a fine mist with a sprayer. After the first application, apply again at an interval of 7-10 days to improve the disease prevention effect.
Improve the disease resistance of Welsh onions. In addition to field management work such as drought resistance and waterlogging reduction, during the disease-prone period in summer and autumn, 15-20 kg of ammonium bicarbonate can be applied per mu of land to promote the growth of Welsh onions and resist diseases.
Apply sufficient base fertilizer before transplanting. For each mu of onion field, 3000 kg of decomposed pig manure and 25 kg of 45% nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer can be applied, and after plowing thoroughly and raking evenly, transplant the young onions.
Reasonable crop rotation and stubble change. In the same plot, do not plant Welsh onions continuously; generally, change once a year. If rotation conditions are lacking, after rust disease occurs, Welsh onions should not be planted again the following year.
