Bitter melon topdressing should not be applied by flushing; master the correct fertilization method
At present, the topdressing method commonly used by vegetable growers cultivating bitter melon is flushing with water, which can apply fertilizer evenly into the soil, but this method of topdressing is not advisable. At present, the topdressing method commonly used by vegetable growers cultivating bitter melon is flushing with water, which can apply fertilizer evenly into the soil, but this method of topdressing is not advisable. The reason is that bitter melon is planted at a relatively low density, only 200-300 plants per mu, with only 3-6 plants per row. When topdressing is applied by flushing with water, the fertilizer utilization rate is very low and the waste is serious. Therefore, bitter melon topdressing should be changed to concentrated fertilization, such as digging ring-shaped furrows for fertilization, which can greatly improve the fertilizer utilization rate.
Specific method: dig a ring-shaped furrow about 20 cm away from the bitter melon plant, with a furrow depth of 5 cm, then apply 50 g of compound fertilizer or 80 g of biological fertilizer per furrow, cover the furrow with soil, and then water. Alternatively, dig a strip-shaped furrow about half a meter long on one side of the bitter melon plant about 20 cm away, and apply the above amount of fertilizer per furrow; the effect is also quite good.
