Reasonably applying suitable varieties of nitrogen fertilizer according to the fertilizer uptake pattern of ginger can greatly increase yield, improve quality, increase the starch, protein and volatile oil content of commercial ginger, and reduce the soluble sugar and cellulose content. Among the four nitrogen fertilizers ammonium bicarbonate, sodium nitrate, urea and ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate has the best growth-promoting effect on ginger at the seedling stage. At the middle and late stages, applying ammonium bicarbonate has the best effect on increasing ginger yield and raising the content of volatile oil, starch and protein.
To obtain high yield and high quality ginger, attention must be paid to nitrogen fertilizer application on the basis of applying sufficient phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. Generally, 30 kg to 40 kg of nitrogen fertilizer is applied per mu, and ammonium bicarbonate or ammonium nitrate should be preferred as the nitrogen fertilizer variety. To promote early and rapid growth of ginger seedlings, an appropriate amount of sodium nitrate (about 20% of the total fertilizer amount) can be applied when phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are used as base fertilizer.
