Managing lettuce in small arched tunnels is simple, with low investment - less than a thousand yuan per mu. A single lettuce plant can grow to 2-3 jin, and the income per mu can reach over ten thousand yuan. Here are several precautions:

First, you must grasp the planting time. Lettuce is generally raised as seedlings around the Autumn Equinox of the previous year, and transplanted at the Start of Winter. The lettuce stem continuously elongates and expands as the plant grows. If transplanted too early, the stem contains too much water and is prone to frost damage. If transplanted too late, the nutrients absorbed in the early stage cannot supply the needs of winter growth.

Second, pay attention to the frequency and method of watering. From transplanting in the previous year to harvest on May 1st of the following year, generally only four waterings are needed. The first watering is done after transplanting. The second watering is mainly the freezing water. After the freezing water is applied, cover the beds with discarded straw mats, mainly to provide insulation and ensure the lettuce successfully overwinters. The last two waterings are from after the Start of Spring of the following year when temperatures rise and the arched tunnels are set up, to about 10 days before harvest.

Third, pay attention to topdressing. With each watering, apply 60-70 jin of high-potassium compound fertilizer. First, it helps fruit expansion. Second, it prevents the excessive use of high-nitrogen compound fertilizer from causing excessive growth of upper leaves, forming a closed canopy environment and increasing the probability of disease occurrence.

Fourth, pay attention to disease prevention. Lettuce has very few diseases. After setting up the arched tunnels, you should ventilate every day to reduce humidity inside the tunnel and reduce disease occurrence. After temperatures rise, there is no need to cover with film. In daily management, you can spray chlorothalonil or Amistar, zhongshengmycin, etc. once every 10-15 days to prevent diseases.
