Spraying potato plants with paclobutrazol helps regulate crop growth

Edible Gardening 0 views
Deformed potato tubers are mainly caused during the tuber enlargement stage by adverse conditions such as high temperature and drought, which inhibit the growth of the expanding tubers and temporarily halt their growth. Later, due to rainfall or irrigation, the growing conditions are restored, and the tubers resume growth accordingly. At this point, the organic nutrients entering the tubers, at the buds with strong physiological activity...
Paclobutrazol is a new type of highly efficient plant growth regulator, and it is suitable for a wide range of plants. Practice has proven that when paclobutrazol is applied to potatoes, the results are very significant.
I. Application effects
1. Dwarfing the plants: After spraying potatoes with paclobutrazol, plant height is reduced by 1/2 compared with the control, internodes are shortened by more than 1/3, the stems become thicker, the leaves become smaller and thicker, chlorophyll content increases, and photosynthetic efficiency improves, thereby promoting the transfer of nutrients to the tubers and promoting tuber growth and development.
2. Suppressing weeds: Although paclobutrazol is a plant growth regulator, it also has the functions of controlling weeds and killing fungi and diseases. After spraying potatoes with paclobutrazol, weeds such as barnyardgrass and chickweed in the field are basically suppressed; late blight, a common potato disease, is also greatly reduced, thereby improving potato quality.
3. Reducing the proportion of small tubers: After spraying potatoes with paclobutrazol, stem and leaf growth can be quickly controlled, advancing the tuber formation period by 5-7 days, thereby reducing the proportion of small tubers by about 15% and increasing the proportion of large and medium tubers, thus achieving the goal of increasing yield. Test results show that after spraying potatoes with paclobutrazol, about 1550 kg of fresh tubers can be produced per mu, an increase of about 310 kg compared with the control, with a yield increase of about 25%.
II. Application technique When potatoes enter the peak tuber stage, 50 g of 15% paclobutrazol wettable powder can be used per mu, mixed with 60-70 kg of water, and evenly sprayed on the potato leaves. It is worth noting that when spraying potatoes with paclobutrazol, attention should be paid to proper timing and even application, the concentration should not be too high or too low, and it must not be mixed with alkaline substances.
