Why do a large number of rotten fruits appear when keeping peppers fresh on the living plant?

Recently, a large number of rotten fruits appeared in peppers stored by vegetable growers using the "living plant preservation" method. After in-depth investigation, the main causes were summarized.
Greenhouse temperature too high  After the beginning of winter, the weather had been relatively warm, and the temperature inside the small arched greenhouse was relatively high. Because after the pepper plants were pulled down and laid over, a layer of film was covered on top, at noon on sunny days the temperature under the film exceeded 25°C, while the most suitable temperature for living plant preservation of peppers is 5-8°C. If the temperature under the film is too high, combined with poor ventilation, diseases are very likely to occur. Therefore, after covering with film, pay attention to temperature changes, and remove the film in time when the temperature under the film exceeds 10°C, so as to avoid inducing diseases due to excessively high temperature and causing rotten fruits.
Inadequate ventilation and moisture removal  After peppers are covered with film, the humidity under the film increases. Failure to ventilate and remove moisture in time creates an environment suitable for disease occurrence, ultimately leading to disease. Therefore, while doing a good job of heat preservation, the film should be removed at noon every day to release moisture. Do not water for 1 week before covering with film. For fields watered before film covering, pay attention to frequently removing the film to release moisture to prevent disease occurrence.
Failure to spray pesticides in time to prevent disease  After film covering, observe frequently, and spray pesticides immediately to control disease when it occurs. During this period, peppers are most prone to gray mold and cottony leak. Gray mold can be controlled with pesticides such as pyrimethanil and cyprodinil, and cottony leak can be controlled with pesticides such as metalaxyl-M + mancozeb and propamocarb hydrochloride. Cover with film again after the pesticide solution dries, so as to avoid excessive humidity under the film.
