1. Symptoms: Carrot tops grow excessively, with long internodes and enlarged leaves; the carrot's fleshy root does not develop, the root system is small, fiber increases, and the root shape becomes abnormal, etc. In some plots, adverse phenomena such as relatively severe disease occurrence appear. 2. Causes: Carrots are mainly grown for harvesting the underground root, and their requirements for soil...
Because the surface of carrot seeds is covered with a layer of barbed hairs, sowing by conventional methods results in slow and uneven emergence. After many years of practice, soaking seeds with hydrogen peroxide solution has shown better results and has already been promoted and applied in the carrot production base in Xiangcheng County.
Soaking time: Put the prepared 25% hydrogen peroxide solution into a container, pour in carrot seeds whose barbed hairs have been rubbed off, stir with a wooden stick while pouring, and soak for 30-50 minutes.
Seed germination promotion: After soaking, remove the seeds from the hydrogen peroxide solution, then immediately rinse with clean water 3-4 times, filtering the water while rinsing. After filtering, place them in a container and cover with a wet cloth to promote germination. If the seeds are moderately mature and plump, generally 85% or more of the seeds will germinate in 7-8 days, and complete seedling emergence can be achieved 5 days after sowing.
Precautions: First, before soaking the seeds, choose a sunny day to sun-dry the seeds. Second, use a chlorothalonil solution to sterilize the seeds that have already been soaked and germinated. Third, seeds that have undergone soaking, germination promotion, and sterilization treatment should be sown promptly, and the soil is required to be moist. Fourth, after sowing, cover with 0.5-1 cm of soil and press lightly, then use a covering material for shade. When 10%-15% of the seedlings have emerged, remove the covering material.
