Key Techniques for Summer Field Management of Rice

Summer Field Management of Rice

After rice is hulled, it becomes the rice grains we must eat every day. As the staple food of southerners, rice is a food crop that almost the entire South must grow. Everyone must already be very familiar with growing rice, and summer is the most critical period for rice growth. Managing rice growth well in summer is important work for ensuring high yield and high quality of rice. So how should field management be carried out in summer? Let's take a look below!

1. Water

In summer, especially in July, the field water should not be too deep in early July; keeping the water layer at about 4cm is sufficient. This not only ensures root respiration, but also expels harmful gases that affect rice growth, making root growth more robust, extending deeper, and allowing more sufficient nutrient absorption. By mid-July, prevent excessively low temperatures from causing cold damage to rice. If the temperature reaches 15°C, deepen the water layer for insulation. This can reduce the probability of empty grains and white heads, appropriately increase surface temperature, and promote nutrient absorption by rice.

2. Ear fertilizer

After entering summer, topdressing with ear fertilizer is very important. Proper application of ear fertilizer to rice can effectively increase the number of ear flowers and prevent premature aging of rice. It can also effectively improve the later seed-setting rate and increase the weight of rice grains. The specific fertilization time needs to be determined according to the growth progress of the rice. It is usually started when 1/2 of the second leaf of the seedling has grown. For ear fertilizer, potassium fertilizer can be used together with a small amount of nitrogen fertilizer. Ear fertilizer is generally applied twice: the first time at the heading stage, and then the second spraying at full heading.

3. Weeding

Summer is not only a time when rice grows rapidly, but also a season when weeds grow rampant. Weeds compete with rice for nutrients and water, and if there are too many, they will also block light in the field, causing a very large impact on the normal growth of rice. Therefore, we should inspect the rice field regularly, promptly remove weeds on the field ridges and in the field, pay attention to the use of herbicides to prevent rice from being harmed, and if weeding by hand, also be careful not to damage the roots of the rice. Reduce the breeding of pathogens and provide a good growth environment for rice.

4. Disease prevention

In summer, rice gradually enters the booting stage. The booting stage is the most fragile stage in the entire growth process of rice, while summer is also a season with a high incidence of various diseases and insect pests. The main diseases include rice blast and brown spot, and prevention should mainly be given priority. Control agents cannot be used alone; corresponding agent control should be carried out according to the specific disease. The main insect pests include the rice leaf beetle and rice planthopper. The pests will gnaw on the leaves of rice in time, affecting photosynthesis of rice. To reduce nutrient accumulation in rice, agents such as abamectin can be used for control.

The above are the summer management methods for rice. Summer management of rice is very important because it is directly related to the later yield and grain weight. The main priority is still the prevention and control of diseases and insect pests. Diseases and insect pests must be controlled thoroughly, otherwise all previous efforts will be wasted and a whole year of labor will be in vain. So I hope everyone will take it seriously.
