It is widely distributed in China, with 3-4 generations per year in Shandong and other places. Adults and larvae feed on the young stems or epidermis of asparagus, causing damage that can lead to deformed shoots or completely defoliated stems, resulting in shortened, deformed or branching shoots with clustered cladodes, and in severe cases the plants dry up and die.
[Control Methods] 1. Clean the asparagus field to remove pests: promptly clean the field before winter or in early spring, remove dead branches and fallen leaves from the field, and burn them in a centralized manner to eliminate overwintering adults; 2. Spray pesticides before the overwintering adults emerge from the soil for control. You can use 20% fenpropathrin EC at 1500-2000 times dilution, or 50% pirimicarb ultra-micro wettable powder at 2000 times dilution, or 47% chlorpyrifos EC at 1500 times dilution, etc., spraying once every 7-10 days for 2-3 consecutive treatments; 3. Master the peak hatching period of this pest's eggs to spray the above pesticides on seedling fields and non-harvested asparagus fields. This helps control the pest at the young larval stage when resistance is weak, reducing the number of first-generation adults, and the effect is very good. In harvested asparagus fields, early August enters the peak hatching period and the peak larval damage period, which is the key period for controlling this pest. Stop applying chemicals about 10 days before harvesting asparagus.
