How to fertilize spring cabbage? Mastering its nutritional characteristics is key

Edible Gardening 0 views
The early-maturing cabbage grown in Changde is deeply favored by consumers for its firm heads, high proportion of clean edible leaves, and high quality and pollution-free nature, with a yield of 4000--4500 kg per mu and an economic benefit of more than 2000 yuan. Its cultivation techniques are described as follows: 1. Sowing and raising seedlings 1.1 Seedling raising time. In order to harvest early, generally in December...
        1. Seedbed fertilization
Raising spring cabbage seedlings for transplanting and cultivating strong seedlings is the foundation of high yield. Seedbed fertilization is the key to cultivating strong seedlings. The seedbed soil should be fertile garden soil where no cruciferous vegetables were planted in the previous year. The seedbed should be applied with fully decomposed farmyard manure, combined with an appropriate amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium ternary compound fertilizer. Since head cabbage has a low potassium requirement during the seedling stage, potassium fertilizer may be omitted or applied sparingly. After fertilization, plow and harrow level, and set aside sieved fine soil for use as covering soil.
When raising spring cabbage seedlings, premature bolting is prone to occur. In addition to strictly controlling the sowing time, attention should also be paid to fertilization during the seedling stage. Too little fertilization at the seedling stage and poor nutritional conditions can easily promote bolting; too much fertilization makes the seedlings grow too fast and easily sense low temperatures too early, so fertilization needs to be controlled. Under normal circumstances, less quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer should be applied before winter; a small amount of quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer should be applied when pricking out seedlings, to help the root system recover growth and promote seedling recovery. Before transplanting and lifting the seedlings, applying a topdressing of nitrogen fertilizer once is very beneficial for improving seedling resistance and shortening the seedling recovery period.
2. Field fertilization
(1) Base fertilizer  Generally, on the basis of applying organic fertilizer, apply 30-50 kg per mu of high-nitrogen high-potassium compound fertilizer, 10-15 kg of urea as a single-element chemical fertilizer, 10 kg of diammonium phosphate, and 10-15 kg of potassium sulfate or potassium chloride. For plots deficient in boron and magnesium, boron fertilizer and magnesium fertilizer should also be applied, generally 1-1.5 kg of boron fertilizer and 10-15 kg of magnesium sulfate as base application per mu.
(2) Topdressing  There are differences because the cultivation seasons of spring cabbage and autumn cabbage are different. The growth period of spring cabbage is relatively short, so the timing should be appropriately advanced. When spring cabbage enters the rosette stage, the root absorption capacity gradually strengthens. Combined with intertillage and loosening the soil, carry out the first topdressing, applying about 10 kg of urea or high-nitrogen compound fertilizer per mu. When it enters the heading stage, early-maturing varieties are topdressed 1-2 times, and late-maturing varieties 2-3 times. At this stage, cabbage has a relatively high demand for nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium nutrients. Generally, in the early heading stage, according to the growth vigor of the cabbage, for plots with insufficient base fertilizer and weaker growth, increase the topdressing amount, generally applying 40-50 kg of compound fertilizer per mu. Fertilization should be incorporated into the soil, and watering should be done promptly to promote heading.
