Key Technical Points for Direct Seeding Cultivation of Mung Bean in Summer

Edible Gardening 0 views
When mung bean seedlings reach the 2-leaf 1-heart stage, remove the clustered seedlings. Thin to final stand at the 4-leaf stage, with a plant spacing of 13 to 16 cm and a row spacing of about 40 cm, leaving 10,000 to 15,000 plants per mu; for late-sown fields, up to 20,000 plants per mu may be retained. From emergence to flowering and canopy closure, mung bean must be kept free of weeds through frequent cultivation and hoeing, generally no fewer than 4 times, with the depth of cultivation going from shallow...
Mung bean is one of the important minor grain crops, combining nutritional value and medicinal dietary value in one. As people's living standards rise day by day, the demand for mung bean keeps increasing, driving its price steadily upward. Growing mung bean requires little investment, gives quick returns, yields high benefits, and has very broad development prospects. Its high-yield and high-quality cultivation techniques are as follows:
I. Seed selection and land preparation. Choosing superior varieties is the key to raising mung bean yields. Select early-to-mid maturing varieties with an upright, compact plant shape, thick main stem, strong branching ability, resistance to lodging, resistance to pests and diseases, good quality and high yield, such as Lulu No. 1. After the wheat harvest, clear the stubble early, and apply 1500-2000 kg of organic fertilizer per mu along with land preparation.
II. Seize the time and sow early. The earlier summer-sown mung bean is sown, the higher the yield. The best sowing period in our region is early to mid-June, with a seeding rate of 1.5-2 kg per mu, a sowing depth of 3-5 cm, and a row spacing of 40-50 cm.
III. Field management. The growth period of mung bean is relatively short, so field management should emphasize the word "early". First, thin and establish the final stand early: thin to final stand when the second compound leaf appears, with a plant spacing of 10-15 cm, leaving 10,000-12,000 plants. The growing season of summer mung bean coincides with the period of drought early and waterlogging later, so when selecting and preparing the land, it must be able to irrigate in drought and drain in waterlogging; especially at sowing time, if the weather is dry, build up soil moisture before sowing. During the seedling stage, a moderate amount of nitrogen fertilizer may be applied as a top dressing, with 7.5-10 kg of urea per mu, to promote sturdy plants. Mung bean is prone to weeds during its growth period, so cultivation and hoeing for weed control should be carried out at the first compound leaf, the second compound leaf, and before branching and bud formation respectively.
IV. Pest and disease control. When aphids and bean pod borers occur and cause damage, promptly spray with a 800-1000 times dilution of 40% omethoate for control.
V. Timely harvest. When the mung bean pods mature and turn black, harvest in stages if conditions permit; for varieties prone to pod shattering, harvest must be done in batches, or the crop can be harvested all at once when 80% of the pods have turned black.
