In early spring, cabbage grown under protective cultivation is prone to head splitting, which not only affects the appearance quality and marketability of the cabbage, but also makes it more susceptible to disease, affecting storage and transportation.
According to experiments, cabbage head splitting is not only related to variety, but also to excessive moisture, while it is basically unrelated to fertilizer. If moisture is insufficient, the cabbage heads are small; if moisture is excessive, it easily causes head splitting. Therefore, the following measures should be strengthened in cultivation management:
① Select varieties resistant to head splitting, such as Zhonggan No. 11.
② Water scientifically, irrigating according to the soil and the condition of the seedlings. The seedling stage requires less water, while the head-forming stage requires more water, and the relative soil moisture content should be kept at 75%-85%.
③ Harvest at the right time. Cabbage is prone to head splitting if harvested too late, so even when market prices are poor, it should still be harvested at the right time.
