Causes and Control Methods of Off-Color Curds in Broccoli

Edible Gardening 0 views
Broccoli, also known as green cauliflower or broccoli, prefers a cool climate. The summer-sowing cultivation techniques are introduced as follows: 1. Early preparation (1) Variety. Choose hybrid F1 varieties with early maturity, strong stress resistance and the highest yield. The main varieties are Yuguan, Teji Yuguan, Wanlü, etc. (2) Plot. Requires rich organic matter...
1. Purple curd. Purple curd is an abnormal phenomenon in which uneven red and white purple mottling forms on the surface of the curd, and it is caused by the influence of low temperature during curd development.
Control measures: Strengthen cultivation management during the heading stage, and before the arrival of low-temperature weather, or before a sudden drop in temperature, carry out short-term arched shed film mulching for insulation to prevent the plants from suffering low-temperature damage.
2. Yellow curd. During broccoli production, the phenomenon of the curd turning yellow often occurs, seriously affecting the commercial value of broccoli. It is mainly formed when the curd is exposed to strong sunlight, and it is more severe especially in early-maturing varieties grown in autumn.
Control measures: When the curd diameter grows to 3 cm, 1-2 outer leaves near the curd can be gently bent over to cover the curd, avoiding exposure to strong sunlight.
3. Brown curd. When the temperature drops sharply below 1°C, the curd is prone to turning brown.
Control measures: Strengthen cultivation management during the heading stage, and before the arrival of low-temperature weather, or before a sudden drop in temperature, carry out short-term arched shed film mulching for insulation to prevent the plants from suffering low-temperature damage.
