The application of base fertilizer should be comprehensively considered according to soil texture, soil fertility, variety, and the length of the growing period. Chinese cabbage is a vegetable with a relatively high fertilizer requirement, a long growing period, and a large amount of growth. This is especially true for late-maturing varieties, which have large plants and high yields and require large amounts of organic fertilizer to meet the fertilizer demand of Chinese cabbage during the middle and late stages of head formation, so generally each mu of land requires 4000-5000 kg of high-quality base fertilizer.
Base fertilizer mainly comes from farmyard organic fertilizer, including compost made from the straw of various crops, livestock and poultry manure, various cake fertilizers, and human feces and urine.
When applying base fertilizer, two methods can be adopted according to the amount and quality differences of the fertilizer: broadcast application and concentrated application. The more ideal approach is to broadcast 2/3 of the total amount of base fertilizer and apply 1/3 in a concentrated way.
