High-Yield Fertilization Methods and Key Technical Points for Sesame
(1) Land preparation: Sesame seeds are small, the root system is weak, and seedlings grow slowly, so fine land preparation is one of the important measures for achieving full emergence and strong seedlings from a single sowing. Sesame is afraid of waterlogging; in low-lying and rainy areas, on the basis of plowing and land preparation, ditches should be opened and raised beds made to do a good job of drainage and waterlogging prevention. In the urban area of Tianjin, spring rain and snow are scarce, so for spring-sown sesame, winter plowing and harrowing should be carried out...
For the base fertilizer, a formula of 500 kg of farmyard manure, 8 kg of nitrogen, and 5 kg of phosphorus per mu can be used. If the soil's available potassium content is low, then 7-8 kg of potassium per mu can be added to the base fertilizer formula; for topdressing, based on the characteristic that sesame has a high nitrogen requirement during the peak period, for single-stem sesame, urea should be applied at 8 kg per mu at the bud stage and beginning of flowering, and for branching sesame, at the stage when branches appear. Sesame is relatively sensitive to boron, so spraying a 0.2% borax nutrient solution on the leaves at the beginning of flowering is also an effective measure to increase yield.
