Why should mepiquat chloride be used cautiously on tomatoes?
In recent years, many farmers have used hormones such as mepiquat chloride when carrying out chemical control on tomatoes. However, improper use of mepiquat chloride often causes phenomena such as small fruit, fruit cracking and green shoulders. For this reason, it is recommended that chemical control of tomatoes should focus on nutritional regulation, and attention should be paid to preventing the following situations. 1.
1. "Small fruit disorder": because farmers use a large dose of mepiquat chloride (or Aifengwang) at the tomato seedling stage and use it late (generally at the "leggy seedling" stage), although plant height is controlled, the development of the fruit truss is also inhibited. At this stage, the "root-strengthening and seedling-strengthening method" should be adopted. The specific method is: use 500-800 times diluted Gaomeishi organic humic acid active liquid fertilizer to drench the roots, using 100-150 grams of the solution per plant, and additionally spray Wanchun plant growth promoter plus hymexazol or Luheng No. 1 to promote root development and improve disease resistance.
2. "Fruit cracking disorder": using mepiquat chloride for chemical control can thicken the fruit skin and cause the fruit flesh to expand rapidly, thereby forming "fruit cracking disorder". To prevent this disorder, boron should be increased, calcium should be supplemented and the temperature should be lowered. Specifically, at the tomato flowering stage, spray 300-500 times diluted humic acid boron-calcium solution or 300-500 times diluted Gaomeishi solution, and apply Zhuanggen Jiabao with light fertilizer water to promote root strength.
3. "Green shoulder disorder": because some farmers increased fertilizer, water and temperature management, the fruit develops too quickly, and in addition the hormone spray is uneven, causing uneven development of various parts of the fruit and forming "green shoulder disorder". The root-cutting and temperature-lowering method should be adopted for control. Specifically, when the tomato has grown the second and third trusses of young fruit, apply bio-organic fertilizer plus potassium sulfate compound fertilizer in furrows or holes to promote the growth of secondary roots, cultivate the ability to absorb fertilizer and water, and lay a good foundation for the later growth stage.
