Key Technical Points and Methods for Applying Molybdenum Fertilizer to Soybeans

Molybdenum is a trace element essential for nitrogen metabolism in crops, and especially essential for the process by which nitrogen-fixing bacteria fix atmospheric nitrogen, so the effect of applying molybdenum fertilizer to legume crops is consistent. Molybdenum is a trace element essential for nitrogen metabolism in crops, and especially essential for the process by which nitrogen-fixing bacteria fix atmospheric nitrogen, so the effect of applying molybdenum fertilizer to legume crops is consistent. Xiao County has about 300,000 mu of soybeans planted year-round, and according to tests by the Suzhou City Soil and Fertilizer Station, 95% of the soil in Xiao County is deficient in molybdenum. In response to this situation, the Xiao County Soil and Fertilizer Station has carried out experimental demonstrations of applying molybdenum fertilizer to soybeans on different soils over the past three years. The test results show that applying molybdenum fertilizer to soybeans generally increases yield by 8.5--22.6%.
1. Methods of use
The methods of using molybdenum fertilizer generally include using it as seed fertilizer, soaking seeds, seed dressing and foliar spraying. Soaking seeds, seed dressing and foliar spraying with molybdenum fertilizer all have significant yield-increasing effects, with seed dressing performing best. The seed dressing method is: first dissolve ammonium molybdate in hot water, then dilute it with cold water to the required concentration, then spray it on the seeds, stirring while spraying to ensure even spraying, and pile them for 1-2 hours until shade-dried before sowing. Seed dressing is best done on plastic film or in a porcelain basin (iron utensils must not be used, to prevent the molybdenum fertilizer from precipitating).
2. Amount of molybdenum fertilizer
Seed dressing: use 1-2 grams of ammonium molybdate per kilogram of soybean seeds.
Seed soaking: soak the seeds in a 0.05% ammonium molybdate solution for 12-20 hours.
Foliar spraying: use 50-75 kg per mu of a 0.03-0.05% ammonium molybdate solution, sprayed on the leaves before the soybean flowering and pod-setting stage.
Seed fertilizer: use 10-28 grams of ammonium molybdate per mu, dissolve it in water, mix it with phosphate fertilizer and potassium fertilizer or mix it into farmyard manure and apply it in furrows or holes.
