Detailed Cultivation Techniques for Spring Corn Intercropped with Autumn Cucumber
Land preparation and fertilization: Choose a sunny, well-ventilated plot with deep, loose, fertile soil, abundant water and good drainage. Base fertilizer should be mainly organic fertilizer, applied as early as possible in combination with autumn plowing, so that the fertilizer can fully decompose and blend with the soil. According to experiments, applying base fertilizer in autumn increases yield by 14.9% compared with applying it in spring. The base fertilizer can be...
1. Select suitable varieties. For corn, choose early-maturing compact varieties, such as Luyuandan No. 4, Tobacco 15, 1243, Huang 417, etc. For cucumber, choose varieties with strong disease resistance, heat tolerance, shade tolerance and strong fruiting ability, such as Jinyan No. 7, etc. It is not advisable to choose early-maturing spring cucumber varieties with strong cold tolerance. 2. Strengthen fertilizer and water management. In the early stage of corn growth, apply 20 kg of standard nitrogen fertilizer per mu, then earth up and water after topdressing. After the root cucumber has set, apply topdressing flexibly according to the growth of the cucumber in combination with watering. Topdressing can alternate chemical fertilizer with human manure and urine to improve the nutritional status of the plants. Generally, apply 15 kg of urea or 25 kg of ammonium sulfate plus about 1500 kg of human manure and urine per mu each time, for a total of 3 to 4 topdressings. Fertilizer and water management in the middle and late stages of corn can be carried out together with that of the cucumber.
3. Spray pesticides to prevent diseases. During the growth period of cucumber, because downy mildew, powdery mildew and other diseases cause serious damage, take the opportunity to spray several fungicides alternately at the early stage of each disease for prevention and control. For downy mildew, use 25% metalaxyl 600 times solution, 40% fosetyl-aluminum 200 times solution, 75% chlorothalonil 500 times solution, 64% oxadixyl-mancozeb 400 times solution. For powdery mildew, use 120 agricultural antibiotic water solution 150 times solution, 25% triadimefon 2000 times solution, etc.
4. Strengthen ventilation at the bottom. In the middle and late stages of corn growth, promptly remove the old leaves at the base of the corn to reduce shading, and make full use of the declining corn stalks in the later stage for the vines to climb and set fruit.
