It is currently the yam sowing season. To effectively control disease and pest damage, the following points should be noted when sowing:

Crop rotation: Root-knot nematodes can survive in the soil for more than 3 years. Diseased yam heads, diseased residues, and diseased field soil are the main routes for the spread of nematode disease. In areas where conditions allow, yam should be rotated for more than 3 years with cotton, radish, eggplant, pepper, etc. In new planting areas, strictly select disease- and pest-free seed pieces to prevent the introduction of nematodes.

Seed piece treatment: Learning from the lesson that some farmers in previous years planted fresh seed pieces directly, resulting in rotten seeds and dead seedlings, insist on dipping both ends of the cut pieces in mancozeb powder and drying them thoroughly in the sun. Soak the seed pieces for 5 minutes in a liquid prepared with carbendazim, triadimefon, and water at a ratio of 2:1:1000, then plant after drying, which can effectively control seedling-stage spot blight, anthracnose, etc.

Soil treatment: (1) Control nematodes and underground pests. For continuous cropping fields, spread the pesticide into the soil layer when the trencher rotates and turns the soil, using 3-3.5 kg of 10% fosthiazate (thiazophos) per mu. If the trencher has no pesticide application device, when leveling the trench, spread the above amount of pesticide separately in the soil layers at depths of 40 cm and 20 cm between the planting rows. After applying the uppermost pesticide, turn the soil once with a shovel, then arrange the seeds and cover with soil. For new crop fields, first spread 2 kg of 10% fosthiazate per mu between the planting rows, then rotate and turn the soil to open the trench. When applying pesticide, avoid direct contact between the seed pieces and the pesticide. (2) Control soil-borne diseases. Before planting, first spray 45% tankejing 1500-2000 times liquid or trusted exojia 500-600 times liquid into the planting trench. After planting and covering with soil, spray once more with the above liquid.
