What are the methods for preventing lodging in spring wheat?

"Lodging" is one of the main obstacles affecting wheat yield under conditions of high fertilizer and water. In recent years, the promotion and application of plant growth regulators in wheat production has opened up a new way to prevent lodging and promote increased yield, and is an important supporting technical measure for high and stable wheat yields.
1. Spraying paclobutrazol: during the wheat jointing stage, spray 30 kg of 200 ppm paclobutrazol solution per mu, which can dwarf the plants and enhance lodging resistance, and can also control wheat powdery mildew and improve the plant's absorption and utilization rate of nitrogen.
2. Applying uniconazole: uniconazole (code S-3307, commercially available as a 5% wettable powder) is a new type of high-efficiency plant growth regulator, with biological activity 6 to 10 times higher than paclobutrazol. When applied to wheat, it can prevent plant lodging under conditions of high density and high fertilizer and water, and has the effect of reducing sterile spikelets and increasing thousand-grain weight; according to experiments, in the absence of wind and lodging, wheat treated with uniconazole increased yield by an average of 15.4% compared with the control. Application method: within one week before the wheat jointing stage, spray 50 kg of 30-40 ppm uniconazole solution per mu.
3. Spraying chlormequat: for wheat fields with large populations and vigorous growth, spray 50-75 kg of 0.15-0.3% chlormequat solution per mu at the early jointing stage, which can effectively inhibit internode elongation, dwarf the plants, and make the stem base thick and hard, thereby preventing lodging; if mixed with 2,4-D butyl ester, it can also control broadleaf weeds in wheat fields.
4. Spraying mepiquat chloride: during the wheat jointing stage, use 15-20 ml of mepiquat chloride per mu, dilute with 50-60 kg of water, and spray on the leaves, which can inhibit internode elongation, prevent lodging in the later stage, and increase yield by 10-20%.
