1. Pinching. The fruiting pattern of eggplant generally increases as the plant branches, basically one fruit per branch. In planting management, this characteristic should be fully utilized, and pinching should be done promptly after planting to promote rapid branching, increase fruiting sites, and improve fruit set rate.
2. Promote the weak and control the vigorous. If eggplant plants grow weakly and lack nutrients, flower and fruit drop will worsen; but if they grow too vigorously, nutrients will be relatively insufficient and cause flower and fruit drop. Therefore, maintaining normal growth is the basic requirement for promoting eggplant flowering and fruit set. Thus, for weak-growing plants, fertilizer and water should be increased to strengthen growth; for overly vigorous ones, fertilizer and water should be properly controlled to help them return to normal growth, so as to improve fruit set rate. The specific method is: when strengthening fertilizer and water management for weak seedlings, use organic fertilizer and quick-acting phosphorus mainly in the early stage, and switch to quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer in the middle and late stages. Preferably at flowering, apply 500-600 kg of decomposed dilute manure per mu, or 20-30 kg of cake fertilizer, plus 15-20 kg of superphosphate. After entering the full fruiting period, topdressing should shift to mainly quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer (each time apply 10-15 kg of urea per mu), and topdress 3-5 times during the fruiting period.
3. Hormone treatment. Spraying flowers with 20 ppm anti-drop agent during the flowering period, or dipping flowers with 30-40 ppm 2,4-D, can both prevent flower and fruit drop, thereby improving fruit set rate.
4. Artificial pollination. The best time for artificial pollination is from 8-10 in the morning.
