Cucumber is a warm-temperature crop, generally growing best at 20-30°C. It likes moisture and fears drought. Under suitable climate conditions, how can cucumber yield be increased? There are the following methods for reference.
The smoke-increasing-female-flowers method. When cucumber seedlings have 2-4 true leaves, fill the greenhouse with light smoke, which can increase female flowers by 15% and increase cucumber yield by about 10%.
Artificial emasculation. When cucumber male flowers have just formed, keep 5%-10% of the male flowers and remove the excess, picking once every 5 days.
Multiple vines bearing fruit. Make full use of side vines to set fruit. For weak-growing side vines, pinch off the growing tip after fruit set; for vigorously growing side vines, trim and utilize them, so as to increase the fruit-bearing population and increase yield.
Broadcasting plant ash. Starting from the seedling stage, scatter plant ash at the base or on the leaves of cucumbers, about once every 10 days, for a total of 4-5 times. This not only prevents pests and diseases but also increases yield.
Supplementing gas fertilizer. Place dry ice or several buckets of manure in the greenhouse to increase the carbon dioxide concentration through fermentation, and cucumber yield can increase by 30%.
Foliar fertilization. At the 7-leaf stage, spray 0.2% borax solution to preserve flowers and increase the fruit-setting rate. When a large number of fruits are forming, spray 0.3% monopotassium phosphate solution, which can increase cucumber yield by about 20%.
