When growing garlic, pay attention to the following aspects:
Fine soil preparation. For growing garlic, fertile, loose, well-drained sandy soil is best, and continuous cropping should be avoided as much as possible. Generally, deep plowing is 15-20 cm; together with deep plowing, apply 1000-1500 kg of barnyard manure per mu, build beds about 2 m wide, dig drainage ditches well, and keep the bed surface level and loose.

Timely sowing. For growing garlic for bulbs, sowing from early September to early October is appropriate; at the latest, it must not exceed mid-October. For growing green garlic, sowing in mid-to-late August is best. Sow by hole planting, 2-3 cloves per hole, spacing 17 x 20 cm, with depth kept at 0.02-0.3 m. After sowing, cover with a layer of plant ash or pour on a layer of mud slurry. The sowing rate is 120-140 kg per mu. Be sure to choose varieties with relatively strong stress resistance.

Fertilization management. (1) Base fertilizer: before soil preparation, apply 20-25 kg of ammonium bicarbonate, 8-10 kg of superphosphate, 4-5 kg of potassium chloride, or 15-20 kg of compound fertilizer per mu. (2) Seedling fertilizer: after full emergence and at the beginning of the three-leaf stage, apply 1500-2000 kg of livestock manure urine per mu, plus 5 kg of urea. (3) Winter fertilizer: so-called winter fertilizer refers to a supplementary fertilizer applied to the crop from this winter to the next spring. Apply 10 kg of ammonium bicarbonate and 1000-1200 kg of human and livestock manure per mu. (4) Bolting fertilizer: during the garlic bolting stage, apply 15 kg of urea per mu. (5) Foliar spraying fertilizer: during the rapid bulb swelling stage, spray a 0.2-0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution per mu, preferably around Grain Rain.

Field management. After the garlic has fully emerged, use bamboo strips to transplant and thin the seedlings. After thinning the seedlings, fertilize and carry out loosening of the soil and weeding in a timely manner. Loosen the soil once around Great Cold, and in late February of the next spring, clear the drainage ditches in a timely manner.

Pest and disease control. The main diseases and pests of garlic include blight and coffee bean weevil. Use 100 g of 25% carbendazim mixed with 50 kg of water per mu for spraying to control blight; for garlic coffee bean weevil, use aluminum phosphide at 3-5 g per cubic meter for fumigation control.

Timely harvest. Garlic scapes are generally harvested from early April to early May. When the upper part of the garlic scape bends downward, or when it has extended 0.1 m above the leaf tip, harvest in a timely manner, trim the garlic base clean, spread it in the sun on site for 2-4 days, and then store it.
