Some farmers apply no fertilizer at all when sowing these crops, and this planting habit is one of the important reasons why peanut and soybean yields remain stagnant. Although legume crops can use the nitrogen-fixing function of rhizobia to absorb nitrogen from the air to supplement nutrition, their nitrogen fixation amount is only enough for 2/3-1/2 of the total absorption, and phosphorus and potassium nutrients are mainly supplied by the soil and fertilization. Therefore, scientifically applying base (seed) fertilizer at sowing time is an important measure to further raise the yield level of peanuts and soybeans. The variety, amount and application method of base fertilizer can be selected from any of the following according to individual circumstances:
1. Use commercial organic fertilizer as base fertilizer. In recent years, the total nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content of the organic fertilizer supplied by our city's commercial organic fertilizer subsidy project can reach more than 8%. When sowing peanuts and soybeans, the amount used per mu is 80-120 kg, worth 25.6-38.4 yuan. When applying it, it can be used directly as seed fertilizer, and there is no need to worry about the fertilizer affecting seed emergence.
2. Use compound fertilizer as base fertilizer. When sowing with mechanical ploughing, apply 25-30 kg per mu of ordinary low-concentration (25%) compound fertilizer with high phosphorus and low nitrogen and potassium by broadcasting, then plough and sow. If mechanical ploughing is not carried out and the fertilizer is used directly as seed fertilizer, the amount per mu should not exceed 10 kg.
3. Use phosphate fertilizer as base fertilizer. Apply about 20 kg of superphosphate per mu as seed fertilizer at sowing time. But after emergence, apply about 5 kg of urea per mu once as a seedling fertilizer.
