How do you disinfect tomato seeds? Please advise
If the surface and interior of tomato seeds carry pathogens such as tomato early blight and viral diseases, the infected seeds will transmit them to seedlings and mature plants, leading to the occurrence of diseases. Therefore, seed disinfection treatment should be carried out before raising seedlings. The commonly used disinfection measures when raising tomato seedlings are as follows:
(1) Hot water seed soaking: scald the seeds with hot water at 50-52°C for 15 minutes while stirring constantly, then scoop the seeds out of the hot water and put them into cold water to cool, quickly removing the residual heat from the seeds.
(2) Chemical seed soaking disinfection method: before chemical disinfection, first soak the seeds in water for about 10 minutes, float off the shriveled seeds, and then carry out the disinfection treatment. Commonly used seed disinfection chemicals include formalin solution, trisodium phosphate disinfectant solution, and potassium permanganate aqueous solution.
