What is cotton Fusarium wilt? What forms does it take?
Cotton Fusarium wilt mainly has the following types:
(1) Yellow net-vein type. The leaf veins first lose their green color and turn yellow, while the leaf mesophyll remains green, forming a yellow net pattern.
(2) Yellowing type. The leaf veins remain green while the mesophyll turns yellow, or both the veins and mesophyll turn yellow. The chlorotic leaves develop from the leaf margin inward, and in severe cases the leaf margins become scorched and withered.
(3) Purple-red type. Purple-red patches appear on the leaves, and sometimes the leaves of an entire fruiting branch or the whole plant all turn purple-red. When it occurs on the cotyledons, a half-side purple-red type often appears.
(4) Half-side yellowing. Half of a diseased plant's leaf remains green while the other half is yellowed or shows the yellow net type; in severe cases it becomes scorched and falls off.
(5) Crinkled type. The leaves turn dark green, become slightly thicker, with the leaf margins curling downward and the leaf surface appearing uneven and bumpy.
(6) Dwarfed type. The internodes of the diseased plant shorten, forming an angle between the nodes, the whole plant becomes dwarfed, and the main stem forms a "ξ" multi-bent line.
(7) Green wilt type. The leaves wilt and droop, but the leaf color does not change; sometimes the whole plant wilts, sometimes only part of it wilts, and sometimes half the plant shows green wilt. It mostly appears in weather that suddenly turns sunny after rain, so it is also called the acute wilt type. Internal anatomical symptoms: after cutting open the main stem, branches or petioles of a diseased plant, black or dark brown stripes can be seen, which are caused by discoloration of the vascular bundles.
