The following preparations should be made for planting ginger:
Seed selection and sprouting: In mid-March, take out the stored ginger seeds, sun them for 5-6 hours, then remove the diseased ginger with rotten bases and rotten stems, and select the relatively plump ones with sprout tips already showing as seeds. Place the selected seed ginger in a greenhouse to sprout.

Choosing the site and preparing fertilizer: The plot for cultivating ginger requires fertile soil, with loam or clay soil, convenient field irrigation and drainage, and preferably a slightly sloping hillside plot. Before planting, plow and level the land, prepare enough organic fertilizer, and pile and compost superphosphate and compound fertilizer together with night soil and plant ash 2 days in advance for fermentation and later use.

Breaking off ginger sprouts: Around "Qingming", choose large and round sprout heads on the seed ginger, break them off together with the tubers by hand, and keep only one strong sprout tip at the top of each tuber. If there is no sprout tip at the top, a side sprout is also acceptable, but keep only one side sprout, and all the rest must be peeled off. If sprouting is good, generally about 2000 ginger sprouts can be broken off from every 100 kg of seed ginger.

Opening furrows and planting: After leveling the land, open furrows row by row (furrow depth 30 cm) and plant, with a row spacing of 30 cm and a plant spacing of 25 cm. When planting, first place the ginger sprout tubers firmly, taking care that the sprout heads press close to the soil surface and do not turn upward, then grab a handful of fermented fertilizer by hand and place it beside the ginger sprouts, and finally cover with organic fertilizer.
