What should be noted when raising pepper seedlings in summer and autumn? Please explain
For summer and autumn pepper seedling raising, when raising pepper seedlings, they are easily affected by weather factors such as high temperature, heavy rain and drought, resulting in poor-quality seedlings. To cultivate high-quality strong seedlings in the hot summer, experienced vegetable growers have put forward the following suggestions:
1. Prevent high temperature. Choose a well-ventilated plot as the seedling bed, cover it with a shade net, and immediately remove the bed covering once 60%-70% of the seedlings have emerged after sowing. In this way, the seedling bed temperature is lowered and a small environment suitable for seedling growth is created.
2. Prevent damage from strong winds and heavy rain. Choose a plot with higher terrain and good drainage. For shading and cooling, it is best to use the "one net, one film" method, covering the film with a shade net to lower the temperature, which can also prevent damage from heavy rain. Before the heavy rain comes, pull down the plastic film, close the ventilation openings, and secure the film-pressing lines to prevent strong winds. Be careful to prevent water from entering the (pepper seed) seedling bed. After water enters, the seedling bed soil will become compacted, which is not conducive to seed germination and emergence, causing a large number of dead seedlings.
3. Prevent drought. Before sowing, determine the sowing rate according to quality. After watering the seedling bed thoroughly with bottom water, sow the seeds. After sowing, shade and keep moist. According to weather conditions, use a watering can to spray water in the morning or evening to prevent excessive drought.
4. Prevent excessive seedling growth. Excessive seedling growth is caused by insufficient light, weak photosynthesis, and less nutrients produced, plus relatively high temperature, especially too high a night temperature, strong respiration, and more nutrient consumption, which reduces the dry matter in the plant body. In addition, sufficient nitrogen fertilizer and water promote excessive growth. Sowing too densely in the seedling bed, shading each other, lack of ventilation, less light reaching the lower part of the seedlings and more light on the upper part can also cause excessive growth.
Measures: Control nitrogen fertilizer and the amount of watering, and carry out chemical control at the appropriate time, spraying with Fengshou No. 1 at 800 times dilution.
5. Prevent damage from diseases and pests. Under the influence of high temperature, viral diseases, aphids and whiteflies occur more often. Lowering the seedling bed temperature can effectively prevent viral diseases. For aphids and whiteflies, insect-proof nets and chemical control methods can be used. Note that the concentration used must not be too high, so as not to damage the seedlings.
