How do you identify asparagus stem blight? How do you prevent and control it? Please explain.
Asparagus stem blight is an important disease harming asparagus and occurs commonly in various regions.
1. Pathogen: Asparagus stem blight is a disease caused by infection with fungi of the genus Phoma in the subphylum Deuteromycotina.
2. Symptom identification: When plants develop the disease, it damages the stems and branches; in the later stages the diseased stems decline prematurely and dry up, causing the entire branch to die.
3. Disease conditions: Continuous rain, or after heavy rainstorms, the disease occurs severely; if the garden is not cleaned in winter and spring, in low-lying waterlogged areas, with excessive nitrogen fertilizer, or potassium deficiency, the disease occurrence is worsened.
4. Control techniques:
(1) Choose plots with good drainage and loose soil for planting.
(2) Strengthen field management, dig trenches for drainage, apply more potassium fertilizer, and avoid excessive nitrogen.
(3) Clean the garden in winter and spring, and promptly remove diseased plant residues.
(4) During the young stem stage and the early stage of disease, you can use 70% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder at 1000 times dilution; or 25% carbendazim powder at 800 times dilution for spraying or drenching the roots, once every 10-15 days, for 3-4 consecutive applications.
