Corn can use the following fertilization methods:
1. Application timing: 15 days before and after corn tasseling, no later than the corn silking stage, is the application period for corn grain-promoting fertilizer. If too late, it easily causes corn to stay green and mature late, affecting the sowing of the next crop.
2. Fertilizer types: For corn grain-promoting fertilizer, it is not advisable to topdress with fertilizers that have a long effectiveness period. Quick-acting nitrogen fertilizers should be used, such as urea, ammonium bicarbonate and ammonium sulfate. These fertilizers take effect quickly and help the accumulation of starch in corn.
3. Fertilizer amount: The amount of grain-promoting fertilizer does not need to be too much; too much also easily causes corn to stay green and mature late. The specific topdressing amount should generally be determined according to the corn variety type. Compact-type corn has strong fertilizer tolerance, a large population and high per-plant productivity. Properly applying more fertilizer later will not cause it to stay green and mature late, but will instead promote increased yield. The topdressing amount should account for 20% of the total topdressing amount, and 8~10 kg of urea can be topdressed per mu; flat-type corn will stay green and mature late if too much fertilizer is topdressed, affecting the sowing of the next crop. The topdressing amount should account for 10% of the total topdressing amount, and about 5 kg of urea can be topdressed per mu.
4. Timely watering: When applying grain-promoting fertilizer, watering must be done in a timely manner, combining fertilizer with water and using water to promote fertilizer, so as to fully leverage the yield-increasing effect of the fertilizer. If there is more precipitation in the later growth stage of corn and the soil moisture is sufficient, you can apply fertilizer only without watering.
